Chilling to pitch yeast

I'm doing a kit that calls for me to top off the fermenter will cool water to equal five gallons , could I add filtered ice to help bring my wort pitching temp ?

See that ice is just cold water, yes, you could do that.

Ice can be horribly contaminated, but if you are confident it is sanitary, why not?

Unless you're freezing boiled water in sanitized containers, your ice will be exposed to contaminants in the freezer. Also, you'll have a harder time hitting the correct volume with ice because it is less dense than liquid water.

Thanks for the help bros , we didn't need the ice after all , we made a cheapo submersion chiller and it dropped it from 210 to 80 in 30 mins woooooooo!!!!!! Very very highly recommended to build a wort chiller , got an idea off you tube to hook up an extra hose an a sprinkler the the hot side used the water for the yard
