I was wondering what the opinion is of using 5 gallon water bottles as a carboy. These are the big plastic bottles from Culligan.

I do not bulk-age my wines. When clear I bottle.

What do you think?

thanks

Sure you can use them.

Not to be short with you, but this subject comes up weekly. To learn more do a search on carboys, plastic, better, bottles, etc. ;)

EDIT: I just got this from another thread:

#3 is ok for water, but I'm telling you; DO NOT use anything but #1 HDPET bottles for alcoholic beverages.

Long story short so you don't have to read a lengthy past post, if they have a Number 1 or 2 on the bottom then they are okay to use.
