Arrogant Bastard recipies out there on the net call for a total grain bill of 13#. They say you'll get an OG of 1.074. That just doesn't seem possible. 7.2% abv on 13 pounds of grain sounds crazy! Or ultra-efficient:confused:

That's only 78% efficiency - far beyond what I get on a consistent basis (although I did once hit 80%), but absolutely within the realm of lots and lots of folks. Lots of people average north of 75%, it depends on your setup, your crush, your PH control, and a lot of other factors. If your efficiency is lower (like mine), add some extra pale malt to make up the difference.

I recently brewed and IMP IPA and managed to nail 1.073 for a 10 gallon batch. :off: High octane fun, prolly bottle condition 5 gallons of it.

I haven't posted this recipe yet because it's only been in the bottle for a week. It tasted really close at least on the hops profile going in. I'll let you know in a few weeks if it turned out OK. Arrogant bastard is one of my favorite brews so I'm going to keep tweaking this until I get it right.

My efficiency was low but otherwise I would have hit my target of 1.078. Note the 1lb of Amber DME i added for a bit of flavor and to raise the OG as well.

10 lb Pale 2-Row UK
1 lb Munich Malt
.5 Aromatic
.5 Biscuit
.5 Caramunich
.5 Special B
1lb amber DME added to initial boil

1.5 oz Chinook -60
1.5 oz Chinook -45
1 oz Chinook - 5
1 oz Centenial Flame Out

Dry hop with 1 oz Centennial Leaf

WPL001 California Ale Yeast (I also brewed this over the weekend with WLP007 Dry English Ale to see if I can detect a difference)
