I did similar, but I kept it in the house. I turned a closet into the brewery warehouse. It was really cool being able to brew any beer with the malts I had. Then weevils. The little critters infested everything, got into the kitchen. SWMBO discovered it. Was an issue.
I now let the homebrew store carry my inventory. I keep several vittle vaults in my garage, just like yours, for base malts. I've got a homebrew shop just a few miles away, so no problem.

I am surprised you like smoked malts that much though. I think 1 pound could last me 5-10 years.

I have been refining my rauchbier recipe (currently on iteration 10 or something) and now use a combination of beechwood and alder.
And then there’s Grodziskie. And smoked porters and stouts and braggots. I go through a lot of smoked malt.

Very impressive. Stored dry the malts should last a long time. I don't use vittle vaults but some surplus naproxen sodium barrels that have gasket and metal snap ring. I think some get up tight about aging malts. I have used stuff two years old with same efficiency and didn't notice a difference. And who knows how old they were when bought. I have even used home grown hops that were vac sealed frozen over two years old. Granted wasn't for an APA or IPA but they worked great. Maybe my pallette isn't as subtle as others

You're probably right, although the thought of drinking a batch of it is making me queasy.
Looks like a good recipe though.
Pro tip: a CD tower holds small plastic containers of specialty grains, quite well:

Confession: I have two cars, the riding mower, the snowblower and the bikes in my 2.4 car garage, where I brew (removing a car first, temporarily).

I have now replaced CDs with malt. This is the 21st century, after all.
And not only am I limited to one car in my two-garage, but given the amount of shelving I just put in for malt, I will never, ever again be able to fit my second car in there.
Wait wait wait.....garages are for CARS????
Not my garage. We had to do some rearranging once to create staging space for a remodel, so while we had open space we put one of our cars in it just to prove it could be done. Pictures were taken.

no they aren't, just like over and under for an extension cord rollling... 'drive' ways are for cars, garages are for your table saw, welding equipment, and brew rig...no one in their right mind would use them to park a car!
My baby goes in the garage every night! I went 42 years without a garage. I’m using it.
Welding equipment....now there's something I haven't tried yet. Darn you Bracc! I do have a soldering iron around here somewhere though. Got the table saw, my dad's old Craftsman that is still quite valuable according to ebay.

I use about 300 pounds of base a year and order in 100 pound quantities.
Keep around 20 pounds of Munich, Vienna and Wheat which lasts about a year.
Roasted, specialty and caramel I keep about 4 pounds of each.
I usually have about 10 pounds of various hops.

I have been known, on rare occasions, to use duct tape on actual ducts.
Here in MN, as I look out the window at the 3' or so of snow on the ground, with more coming down, I am glad I can park our cars in the garage. But then, I have a basement for storage, something not available in some parts of the country.
Cough, cough...leaf blower.
If you look carefully at the left side of this picture, you can see the tip of the driver’s side mirror of my wife’s (very small) car. And the shelving system that I put in to make room for said car.

Nah. Cars are built to be outdoors. Tools and brewing equipment were not. Easy choice!
