I built a 3l starter (1.037) from about 30ml of yeast. Its been sitting for a week. I might have under estimated my initial yeast count. I Prob should have stepped it up from a one liter. I'd like to step it up one more time to make sure I have enough yeast but how would I do that when I started with such a large starter to begin with.

So if my slurry doesn't have enough cells. I already built my initial starter from a 3L at 1.037. Could I just do another 1L with a higher OG say 1.050 and get a little more growth. My initial starters been sitting for a week since I haven't been able to brew. Would like to get more yeast growth. But not sure i can when my initial starter was so big.

Try cold crashing your starter. Decant the wort and make a new starter of about 1.5 liters in size. A large wort volume, without a proportionate amount of yeasts cells, will have a less than optimal growth rate in a starter.

According to yeast calc I need 277 billion. My starter grew to 296. So I should be good. I'm wondering if I'm losing cells from letting my starter sit for a week on top of the starter wort.
