With renewal coming up starting next week, I'm going to pass on all of the beers this go round. Sans Pagaie is great but has it always been $24? I couldn't even take a sip of the Melange #11, I hate Anise and from the smell alone I gagged a little. I'm sure someone will like it, but I'm not that person.

Whoa, didn't notice the price increase on Sans Pagaie before you mentioned something (it's actually $23 and not $24 though). The base price had been $19.99 in years past. Did cherries get a lot more expensive this year? Base beer cost should have at least been cheaper this year with their increased production.

All of their fruited BA sours have been $23 this year (Filmishmish, SitR w/ P, Sans P). Still a solid value, but I really liked them at the $16 price point with HS discount.

You're familiar with how we let our beers tell us when they're ready. So, rather than name all of them before their full personalities takes shape, we're holding back some names this time around, until we're closer to the time that their caps are crowned, so to speak.

So basically they don't want to commit to releasing a beer and then be held accountable when it doesn't carb up or is infected as ****. Not like news isn't going to leak out when label approval art trickles in. But this just comes off even worse given the bump up in renewal time frame.

Yeah, we want you to commit to another year... but we can't tell you much.

Beret/BWXII dropped from $19.99 to $14.99

I'd be jazzed about berliner's and possibly have stayed in next year if it wasn't for De Garde being only 5 hours from Seattle :)

Getting (3-4) bottles of De Garde for the price of (1) RS beer is just amazing...

All those De Garde stouts? Or did I miss The Bruery's $30+ saison/berliner? Also, only a 9 hour round trip drive is convenient for you? That's a crazy valuation (well devaluation) of your time.

Drive through the Oregon Coast, hang with a really good crowd, maybe ******** a little one of the coolest and most personable brewers around, drink heavily fruited low abv beers. That's time well spent for me. I'd rather do that and I have to fly from San Diego.

But your point is well met. We all joke about how the DeGarde beers are the most expensive cheapest beers around.

I get 41 mpg dawg! Plus a fun weekend Oregon coast trip and stop by to see my family? Yeah...well worth it.

Right, all those are fine reasons to choose De Garde. Hell, there are plenty of good reasons to not want to be part of Bruery's societies and I totally understand those. Saying that it's a short trip and/or incomparably cheap is just silly. Maybe if you live in Tillamook...

41 mpg is still over $35 in gas. That's not counting wear and tear on your car or the fact that you're spending 9 hours driving. Your family or it being a fun weekend trip have nothing to do with your original post.

I'd totally drive to Tillamook and buy De Garde if Beligum wasn't only 12 hours from SF. Getting (2) bottles of Cantillon for the price of (1) bottle of De Garde is just amazing...

Had a taster pour of both M11 and Sans Pagaie last night at Society Member Monday

Took several deep smells of M11 set it back in the taster rack and moved on. If you LOVE overpowering black licorice then maybe you'll like this beer... not a ******* chance I'd buy a bottle

"Dood! You're killing the trade value!"*

* This can also be said to the honest person who didn't give FO a perfect 5 score.

I'm still wondering how the Bruery can think that a beer with Anus would be good.

Hi Bruery Friends!

After a wild holiday weekend, we're back in the regular swing of things here at The Bruery. Over the next couple days we'll continue our streak of sour releases, which will be a welcome addition to our growing summer lineup. We hope to see you soon!

1. Archive Sours! This weekend, we'll see two archive sour beers hit the Tasting Room.

  • On Friday, we'll be breaking out bottles of 2014 Sans Pagaie. Sans Pagaie is our take on the Belgian-style kriek, which is a sour blonde ale aged in barrels with cherries. The base beer has a subtle funk, which melds gently with the fruit giving this beer flavors reminiscent of coconut, vanilla yogurt and of, course, fresh cherries.
  • On Saturday, Oude Tart with Cherries will join our lineup. That blend of our award-winning Flemish-style red ale with cherries has been a fan favorite since its release.

2. Reserve Society Exclusives. We have some exciting new brews for the Reserve Society and Hoarders Society this week (make sure you bring your cards!)

  • Tonight, Thursday, July 9, we have Chronology:12 on tap.
  • On Friday, July 10, we have the draft release of 2015 Sans Pagaie.

3. Food Trucks. We have food trucks lined up for each day this weekend.

  • Thursday, July 9: get some BrewWings for a classic beer pairing.
  • Friday, July 10: the Garbage Truck will be around all day.
  • Saturday, July 11: the Buffalo Truck will be here from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with their amazing pub grub.
  • Sunday, July 12: we round out the weekend with the QL Chinese Gourmet truck.

not a society member anymore, but i figure this is a good place to ask.

beret just hit distro by where i live. the description makes it sound a hell of a lot like bottleworks xii, which is probably my all time favourite bruery beer. is beret anything like bottleworks xii, or is it something else entirely?

Pretty sure dontdrinkbeer is somehow getting paid a % of Beret sales as he also made me buy a few more bottles after the review. BW XII is also one of my favorites so I couldn't pass on this.

Beret: we began fermenting with a Belgian-style witbier yeast strain. To finish the fermentation, we added our collection of barnyard bacteria, intended to slowly sour the ale, bringing out a slight funk and refreshing piquancy. Finally, a small dose of pureed raspberries were added for just a hint of fruity tannins, putting the berry in Beret.

12: Using our berliner culture and a Belgian-style witbeer yeast, we created an imperial sour wheat beer that was fermented in large oak barrels. We then added raspberries for the final month of fermentation.

Sounds like Beret didn't use berliner culture, no oak, and less raspberries but other than that, pretty damn similar. Can confirm DDB's review, it's good.

Also...counted today and I'm pretty sure the RS has released 11-12 beers of their schedule with 30 remaining for the last 6 months. Wtf?!?
Correct, RS has 30 left and HS has 32 left. If August doesn't have at least 6 beers released, it will be pretty clear that beers are going to start sliding into 2016 or just disappearing as Rum Autumn Maple did last year.

both are on oak READ THE FUKN LABEL:

also, who knows if the "berliner style" bacteria is materially different in 2012 parlance from the current "barnyard bacteria" but the two taste incredibly similar and the abv clocks in really near one another.

the funniest part about this whole thing is the newmoney BA reviews which contrast dipshit groupmind mentality about Bruery beers, the difference in scores between BWXII vs. Beret reviews is hilarious.

It would be like if people were like "HotD BWX was amazing...THIS BEER CALLED MATT IS ******* GARBAGE."

Here's a hilarious example of what I am talking about, by my estimation and from other people present, Bottleworks XII and Beret are almost the exact same ******* beer.

Check out these two different reviews from noted reviewer UclabrewN84 spaced apart by three years:

BWXII:

4.27/5 rDev -1.4%
look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.5

Bottle pour at Woodshop 7 held at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

Pours a murky brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to dots of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace also form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, spice, wood, and some wine aromas. Taste is much the same but is pretty sour and funky as well. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a great beer with a solid aroma and really nice set of flavors that make it easy to drink.

UCLABrewN84, Jul 25, 2012

Beret:

3.58/5 rDev -13.5%
look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Bottle pour at the LA Beer Week Kickoff Festival held at Exposition Park in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a murky orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour with grain, fruit, funk, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with sour grain, fruit, and earth flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty, but the smell on this one is slightly better to me.

Serving type: bottle.

Not really fair to compare checkins that are three years apart though. I'm quite certain I'd rate some of the exact same beers much lower than I would have 3 years ago. And perhaps some higher.
