Not so American Brown Ale:
I used a American Brown Ale recipe as a basis for malts and then used some English Hops that I had on hand as a experiment and to save coin...
2 x 1.8 kg/3lb and 15.5 oz - Amber LME
.35 kg/12.3 oz - Medium Crystal
.15 kg/5.29 oz - Biscuit Malt
.15 kg/5.29oz - Chocolate Malt
Hops
25 grams/.88 oz - Target (UK) at 60min
15 grams/.52 oz - Fuggles at 30min
15 grams/.52 oz - Fuggles at 15min
Tasting notes:
The chocolate malt seemed slightly excessive to my taste. I was thinking of reducing it to .12 of a kg... and maybe halving the biscuit too...
I also thought I'd use Wilemette and Cascade for flavoring next time around - and overall I'd like to give it a slight more emphasis on the hops... and swap the Target for a generic clean local bittering hop that's cheaper...
Any ideas?
