Brewery names--what's your story?

In 2010 the wife and I purchased a stone house built in 1915 for a restoration project leading to a retirement home. Hence my selected brewery name.

Automat Kalashnikov, basically it's what the AK means in the rifle designation.

And a great name for this brewery's IPA would be Mikhail Pail Ale in homage of the design of the AK series of rifles Mikhail Kalashnikov.

Ours is "Take The Wheel" brewery, from a song by Richard Bush from The A's (a Philly band from the 80's)
The logo incorporates the line " you drive for a awhile", my wife's tattoo and a nautical theme. A friend designed the logo.

Ok so I have named mine "Homewrecker Brewing". Homewrecker is the name of my bass boat. It refers to the amount of time I spend fishing and now brewing as well.

Nickel City Brewing because I am from Sudbury, Ontario which is home to the biggest nickel deposit in the world and is often referred to as The Nickel City.

The section of Philadelphia we grew up in attempted to split from the city in the 80s. The new city was to be called Liberty County. I've always thought that was a great name so we ran with it.

Amory's Tomb Brewing - I live across from a historic cemetery and look at the town founder's tomb on a daily basis. It's eerie and beautiful, and makes a great backdrop!

When I got my first email account, I was trying to come up with a email name I could remember. So my email username uses my first and last name initials followed by Duckman because I liked to duck hunting.

I don't have a brewery name but I do have a Brewery Consulting business. I concentrate on brewery/bar design, quality control, project and operations management, staff and server training with breweries, bars, and home man caves/breweries. I've been working professionally in the brewing and dis tilling industry since 2007 and decided to make the leap into consulting because I had to fix and work with Equipment and products that were sub par or unnecessary due to bad advice and $greed$ from consultants, some who had never even brewed before or done some off handed office job at AB.



I just finished a 10 bbl system 80bbl capacity. Let me tell you. Utah beer laws are strange and hinder the production and consumption of great craft beer.

I am thinking about opening a craft beer and whiskey bar in a couple of years. Both logos and names are trademarked.

I cook in the kitchen, but the rest of my brew setup is in the dog's room. That way if I brew something stinky or have a spill, I can blame it on the dogs!
(Actually, it's because I don't have room to put it anywhere else)

So that makes me "Dog's Room Brewing." Experimental brews get all kinds of funky names, but once I have a recipe to where I (and more importantly, the wife!) like it and want to make it a regular, I name it "Dog's {Something}"

That is exactly why. Colorado is much more friendly with beer production. Plus in most every other state if you ship the alcohol out of state you don't pay your states tax, you pay the receiving state taxes. Not so with Utah you pay both. I could ramble on and on but I'll save that for later. Lol!

I've got no real good place to store my beer. No closet big enough. No fridge to put it all in. So I use our spare bathroom. The tub specifically. I built some of those crates from "Uncle David" and use those in the tub to keep it tidy. I've got the ability to hold 196 brews and can easily build more of the crates for about $5 each. Hence the name: Bathtub Brewery. Where it's OK to be a little dirty with your beer.

To make a long story short... My girl and I were out renting videos and came across a pirate porn movie... Instead of the expected results of watching porn we were both laughing our asses off and disturbed at the same time... Lots of spitting and other oddities... So after our sides were split from laughing so hard my girl says "that's it - Spitting Pirate Brewery!!" The logo is my avatar.

Mine is The Leaky Tap Bar and Grill. When I first started brewing, I kegged instead of bottled. I didn't have my keezer yet, so I put two kegs in my spare fridge with the taps attached to a piece of wood inside (didn't drill holes in the fridge). Anyway, if the door was closed too hard, as often happens when people are drinking, the taps would open and I would end up with a crisper full of beer. Thus the name, Leaky Tap. I had a friend make me some templates and etched this logo in to my mugs as well.

My 8 year old son and I were trying to come up with a name for our brewery (he makes soda). He looked down at my hand and said what about One Thumb Brewery? I had cut off half of my left thumb when my wife was pregnant with him. It's a great conversation starter.

That is a good story. I can tell you that a great story like that will attract a lot of people. It's a great marketing tool. I've learned that having a name with a humble or comedic story really brings customers into bars and breweries. It would be fun to market that story. I'm chuckling to myself thinking about slogans.

While they were at school, they dabbled in illegal moonshine IN THE DORMS!!! They were found out and kicked out of school. My great grandfather had to make a hefty donation to get them back in, and they (along with several other students) were given the dubious task of planting the now famous Live Oak trees on the New Main drive on the Texas A&M campus. I thought it was only fitting that our own alcoholic beverage experience mirrored our storied history!

I don't plan on opening a brewery, but if I decide to label beyond using a sharpie to put a number on the cap I'd probably go with Brew's Brew.

The ironic thing about my screen name is that I've been using that since long before I thought about brewing my own beer. It's really a play on my real name. First name is Bruce, last name starts with Menn..., And it also plays in with my affinity for beer.

Mine would be Fat Joyce Brewing Co.

When I was in the Army, some guys nicknamed me Fat Joyce because I liked cooking and had quite a few cook books. Then, another guy with the same last name (Joyce), who was actually fat, came to our company and the name stuck with me because it was funny to call me Fat Joyce when I wasn't the fat one.

As a wedding gift 5 years later, one of the guys in my platoon that I still have contact with got me a pitcher and 4 pint glasses that say Fat Joyce Brewing Co. on them.

I am a bit of a gear head and I love muscle cars, jeeps and Air cooled VWs. When I was younger my dad had a 57 Beetle my grandfather bought new and everyone learned how to drive with it and it has always been in the family. Finally about 8 years ago my dad said I could have it. So we packed up the trailer went to Albany GA to get it from his buddy's house. When we got there it had been destroyed by the guys son. All the glass was busted out, every body panel had been beaten in everything that could have been broken was. The roof has been stomped in and had held so much water it had a 3' hole rusted in it. We also counted 20 bullet holes in it. Heart broken I dragged it home. It was beyond repair. I have been working since that day to get another 56-57 beetle and finally made it happen about a year ago as I I would buy and sell here and there. A 68 and up air cooled beetle is considered a true "Fat Chick". I know it's not PC but I did not make it up. Well a 56-57 is a rare bird but still considered a fat chick in the "oval" (it has the small oval rear window) world. I brew my own beer and work on my own cars. I love my 56 "Fatty Oval".
