Most people, myself included, don't boil top off water... But they still take sanitation very seriously. I still have no idea why?

Maybe those that boil top-off water have chlorine in their water so they have to get rid of it before using? Otherwise, I have no idea why anybody would boil top-off water.

Is there a reason why we don't? I mean we make sure everything is sanitized but then we just fill it up with tap water... Idk just seems strange to me haha

Well, my tap water is safe enough that I even DRINK it!

I give it to my grandkids, even. Nobody has died or gotten sick yet.

Drinking it versus putting a bunch of sugars in it, leaving it for a month at room temperature, then drinking it are totally different. Lots of living things are in your tap water (heck, just look at your report from your water company).

I read somewhere that most infections were from people rinsing their equipment with unboiled water post-sanitizing. (Don't know if that's true.) Topping off with water straight from the tap would be even worse than just rinsing.
