Hello! I'm brand new to home brewing! I just finished my first fermentation using apple cider with a few oz of honey, sugar, and some bread yeast :)o). I know bread yeast is a bad choice, so I've tried to start my own culture.

I've a got a culture of yeast going, started from some grapes I picked up from the grocery and some spring water. I put these in a mason jar. I also tried some raisins (brand: Sunmaid) but that failed. Honestly, I expected the grapes to fail and the raisins to work.

Anyway, I've got a bit of bubbles in my grapes and I've fed them 2 heaping tablespoons of sugar in addition to the grapes that they're working on. I was wondering if there was a good way to store and or stabilize the culture. Obviously if I leave them as is, they'll die from alcohol poisoning.

I'll be leaving town shortly for a few weeks and I need to know what to do with my culture! Should I remove the grapes?

Sorry, but we can't give advice to the underage trying to capture yeast to make hootch because they can't buy brewer's yeast until they're 21...

I'll be 21 by the time I arrive back in town to work with the culture. Dec 28, 1990. Besides, if I needed better yeast I could just order it online. Also, there is nothing illegal about buying/having a yeast culture. I'm just running an operation called "How cheap can we go and make something drinkable/tasty."

I'm also gonna leave the jug I already have for a few weeks too....
