Hey all -

Working on a belma/cascade IPA recipe, and would love some input from the hive mind... I've done a number of batches of an earlier version of this recipe, which was far more weighted towards the bitter end with less emphasis on flavor/aroma. I've shifted a hefty portion of the hop schedule towards the flavor and aroma windows, and think i'll be adding a dry hop as well, but any input is very appreciated!

Since reformatting the recipe from my spreadsheet to a HTML format is proving to be a pain, the PDF is here.

Thanks!

Sorry you didn't get any replies to your request. Did you go ahead and brew that recipe? I'm searching around today trying to find info on Belma hops, and not having much luck. Do you think this hop is a reasonable substitute for Centennial?

I just got through 2lbs of belma. It's pretty clean for bittering. Aromas can very, but many say it's "melony" I agree with that. It's pretty subtle. I can look back on some recipes and tasting notes, but your guess is as good as mine.

Thanks for replying. Hate to hijack this guys thread, but wanting to discuss Belma. Anything you can add is appreciated. I also started my own thread in this same Forum, so maybe you could post more info there.

I can't seem to find your thread or the old threads from 2-3 years ago, but we've talked about those Belmas on here before.

I made an all Belma pale a while back. Very big strawberry taste.

If you don't mind me asking:
-What was the OG and ABV?
-How many hops did you throw at it (per 5 gallons)?
-Did you like it? Or was it (just) okay?

S-04 fermented in the mid 60s
Mash 155

.5 oz at 45, 10, 5 and flame out

2 oz dry hop

I didn't really like it. I think it was a combo of the relatively high FG and the in your face strawberry. I haven't used Belma since, except for bittering.

Hate Belma for IPAs and Pale Ales. Unfortunately, that's most of my brews. Strawberry is too prevalent; might be good in a saison, wheat, or special category brew.

Use the search - a lot of discussion.
