It's a long walk (~2mi) and not very pretty (along the highway for a 1/4). It's doable, I did it with friends in March, but we were a little sweaty after the walk.
Ah. Probably not a good walk for my older folks then. I just looked and it appears that I can take a 14 minute train from Lambic o Droom, and the train stops right by the restaurant?

Will be in Brussels 6/1-3. Anyone want to split some bottles? Staying down the street from Moeder.

Also what happened to that cantillon watch thread?

The train is definitely right next to lambic o droom, but I don't know that there is a train station near the restaurant

That's that good good

Give the bus driver some cash, think it's either €2,50 or €3 for a single. Get out when you see the main square of Beersel. They call out the stops on the bus as well
Damn. 3 euros per person? That's CRACK PRICES.

Then again I haven't riden a local bus here in years thankfully so I'm not in touch with the usual cost of a ride.

OR go at 7am at the beginning and enjoy croissants and coffee.
That's my plan. I was around during a brew day last February so I don't need to stick around beyond the early morning stuff. Plus I wasn't a big fan of Brussels so I'll be posted up at the Lambik o Droom during the day and Beersel for dinner.

Why didn't you like in Brussels and what do you like in a city? What are you looking to do on your visit? Could be a case of not knowing where to go, or could just not be your city:)

Is anyone? Definitely my least favorite place I've been in Belgium and probably my least favorite city in Europe. I'm going to assume that being the home of the EU just ruined it and it used to be better.

Anyone attending the carnivale brettanomyces in Amsterdam? I scored tickets to the bokkereyder tasting/blending thing

I didn't mind Brussels the city itself, but the people felt "tense" when I was there and not very welcoming. Lots of people seemingly out of work and loitering on corners, lots of very armed military-style police. My fiance didn't want to speak English on the subway.

The train station bombing happened about a week after I left and while terrible, we were not very surprised.

Just FYI Belgium is home to Fabrique Nationale. One of the premiere weapons manufacturer's in the world. FN makes some quality weapons. I'd guess Belgium probably arms their police with some FN guns. I actually know a Belgian police officer in Antwerp. I'll ask him. Now I'm curious

No real need to take the Thalys, there is a direct train, but the Thalys is faster.
For the normal Intercity you definitely don't have to buy a ticket in advance

I know FN from Counter Strike.
