I agree. But if exploring the city a bit is something he's interested in doing, the proposed schedule is probably not going to leave him much time.
I did a tour with a friend who is a local and we got to see most of the highlights in two hours.

Damn. I'll be there four days.

Four glorious days of lambic gorging! Na, we'll visit some of them other cities too I suppose.

Consider staying in Ghent or Bruge and taking a train into Brussels for lambic....one option to consider but yes, I think you could do Brussels city stuff in half a day and spend the rest of the time in other cities when not lambic-ing.

I have already booked all nights in Brussels, near the Grand Palace

It takes an hour or less to get around various cities in Belgium by train, so don't feel like you need to stay in any one place.

This works too. Just try to get out to other cities. Easy 30-60 minute trains (Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp...)

Cool. We plan on visiting the surrounding cities for sure. Doing a lot of research between this thread and The Google.

Yeah if Brussels didn't have lambic then it wouldn't be on my list. We'll be absorbing plenty of culture in Spain and Italy so I kind of just want to go nuts on beer that day (we'll still see the Grand Place I'm sure). I'm wondering if 3F, Cantillon and Moeder are the best options for one day. I'd love to have the chance to try some harder to find lambic like 50N perhaps...
If it's not Sunday and/or you don't have a car, then sure, they're probably your best bets. Bier Circus could be worth it and IIRC it was near a neat-ish museum, but it's been so long I don't remember which one.

If anyone needs some info about Brussels, send me a PM.
More than happy to help my fellow TB'ers :)

I'll be back in Brussels on March the 4th, heading to Cantillon for a few beers, more than happy to share if anyone is around. Will be in town for a few days.

I'm also having a look at the Alvinne festival but that might be hard to convince my non-drinking wife to attend...

Ill be in brussels 3/14-3/18 and amsterdam 3/10-3/14,3/18 If any tb'ers want to have a beer. Ill be bringing a mix of Hill farmstead and NE hops.

Posted this in the wrong thread last night...

Alright, only 4 more weeks until I get to visit Belgium again! I'll be there for a week (22/3 - 28/3) with some friends, staying in Brussels and taking day trips. This will be their first time so we're hitting some cultural stuff with the beer. We plan to visit Cantillon, Moeder, 3F, In de Verde, Ghent, Bruges, Antwerp, Grote Dorst, and DHVL. If anyone is in any of those towns and wants to meet up with us for some beers that would be awesome. I'm definitely going to bring some stuff with me to share or gift away as well.

OK, I need some advice on reserving Westys. They aren't sold out for my date next Wednesday when I'll have a rental car, I'm not getting a busy signal but getting through and getting some message, then a beep and transfer. Do I have to press something? Leave a message? This is the closest I've ever come to getting my own case instead of relying on the shop across the street. Can I get some help? I'm calling during the time to reserve it.

Nope, sometimes even after ringing it just doesnt go through. Just have to keep calling until they answer. Good luck!

They might not be answering because you are calling Westy and not Westvleteren...

I'll be in Brussels May 15 (evening), 16, 17 if anyone wants to split some beers. It'll be my first time in Belgium. Probably go to Cantillon on Tuesday and 3F on Wednesday. Send me a message if interested! I'll likely bring some of my favorite local beers to give out.

I THINK I'm going to be booking tickets to Brussels tonight- For the late August/early September time frame. If I book, I'll come back to update and hopefully get some plans going with a few of you. I had a lot of fun last year meeting locals and people from all over.

Hope to see many of you soon. Cheers!

Trip booked! Arrive: September 17th @ 8:45AM. Departing Monday the 25th.

Digita7693 :)

I don't ball hard with bottles like I used to, but I can usually throw together some Jester King and Schramm's mead if anyone wants to share bottles, trade, meetup, etc. I'll definitely pay a visit to Cantillon, Tilquin, Drie Fonteinen, etc.

City wise I'll hit up Antwerp, Denderleuw for DHVL (spelling?), Gent, and Brugge

Hey, I'll be staying in Brussels basically those same days, arriving from my London part of the trip on the 19th and leaving Brussels on the 26th. Should that be Monday the 25th that you're leaving?

I'm planning stops at Cantillon, 3F, DHVL and Grote Dorst among others. I'm not sure what other cities I'll be visiting. I'll be bringing beers from home, but not sure how much I'll drop off in London and how much will continue with me to Brussels. Either way, I should have some beers from home and some that I pick up in London with me to share.

Yep. I leave Monday morning on the 25th. I'm definitely down to share anything you bring, but trust it's better to split bottles at a brewery so you can drink more. Unless it's something uber rare and you wanna throw back a whole 75cl. Been there. ;)

You been to Brussels before?

Well that's too bad. Best meal I've ever had.

Up there for me too. Top 5 for sure. And such a lovely location, great place to stay and awesome breakfast. I know he has the other restaurants in Ghent now too, but I hope he does something in the south there again.

This will be my third year in a row in Belgium although the first trip was only a weekend. I've spent some time in Brugge, Gent, Antwerp, Poperinge and Lier, so I'm not sure if I'll go back to any of those or head somewhere new to me. I was leaning towards a lambic focused trip. Maybe walk the Bruegel route and visit some cafes in smaller towns like Dworp. As far as Brussels, I've only spent a night there and parts of other days. As much as I enjoy drinking a bottle of something like Fou Foune myself, it would be nice to split with someone and enjoy a variety of bottles.

Nice! This will be my second time. Learned a lot last time from personal experience, and because I went with a veteran traveler.

I tend to stick to Gent, Antwerp, Brussels, and Beersel. Brussels gets boring after 2-3 days

Definitely down to split bottles. I tend to plan out my entire trip in advance since I feel like you have to given the places I want to go to, and how they're all open/closed at varying times. Will shoot a PM so I remember to hit you up when I plan what days I'll be at Cantillon, 3F, etc.

Anyone know what the distance is from 3F Lambic O Droom to the 3F restaurant? Walking or otherwise??

It's a long walk (~2mi) and not very pretty (along the highway for a 1/4). It's doable, I did it with friends in March, but we were a little sweaty after the walk.
