Hello All,
New to the hobby and have a beginner question. How much will 16oz of Belgian candy Sugar change my OG and final Alcohol. Will this also dry out my beer. I'm brewing a pretty standard IPA.

Thanks

Use plain table sugar.

Light candy sugar adds nothing except sugar. Dark candi sugar does add some flavor.

Plain sugar and candy sugar (rock) will add about 45 points per lb. That is, 1 lb dissolved in 1 gallon of water will give you a gravity of 1.045. Or if 1 lb is added to 5 galons, it will raise the gravity by .009 (45÷5=9).

Candy syrup has about 36 points per lb, or will raise the gravity of 5 gallons by .007.

+1 on plain table sugar for a light Belgian.

And, yes, a pound of sugar will drop the FG by a couple of points, thereby drying it just a bit.

For darker Belgians, like a Dubbel that should have the typical plum and raison notes, I prefer dark candy syrup.

Plain sugar works great, and is what the Belgian brewers use. If you want to darken things up a bit sans the use of darker grains, invert and cook your own sugar to the desired color.....
