Its been awhile since I posted on this project. I've been very busy getting the trailer ready for automation. I haven't brewed since the big brew due to the trailer being disassembled for refit. before the unveiling I want to thank family and friends for their contributions to my dream without which this could not have been possible. Although not quite finished, it was time to take some pictures. The wiring of the trailer and mounting of the control box needs to be completed and is not pictured yet.(pics of the components can be found in my gallery for those interested) The brew system will be automated by the Brewtroller which will be housed in a 14x16x6 SS enclosure. There are 14 switches(3 position) also mounted in the control box which will give me the choice of off/auto/on for complete control during either a manual brew or full auto brew of each solenoid, burner, pump and valve. Each kettle has temp control and volume control via pressure sensors located in the control box. The sight glasses have been removed for the install of exterior mounted pressure sensor tubing to reduce off measurements from the airbubble getting hot and expanding. When complete I will post more detailed pics of each part but untill then here is where I am at. Enjoy

Holey Moley Beerthirty! This is the first time I have seen this thread. What a great idea and wonderful impletation. Job well done! I am very green with envy right about now. I give it about a million on a scale of 1 to 100.:D

Nice trailer setup BUT.... more pictures of the FSJ Cherokee!!!:)
LOL its been sitting in my driveway for about 6 years, ever since the timing chain cover got corroded out from the previous owner using water as coolant. When it was running I installed parttime 4 wheel drive, 16% overdrive, 4 1/2" lift, headers w/ dual exhaust, and 4 barrel. It still needs a cam since the overdrive took it out of the stock torque curve. Its a project that I want to get back to at some point. Nice thing about AZ vehicles is almost 0 rust, but its hell on interiors.

OK now I'm stoked! I just received this PM.
Brew trailer in BYO magazine?
I'm with BYO magazine and was wondering if you might want to show off your brew trailer in an upcoming issue. Zip me an email at xxxxxxx if you're interested and I'll provide some more details for you. Thanks!

Time to forget about the heat and get this puppy finished. :) :) :)

Wow!!! That's so ****ing cool!

I plan on crashing your party sometime in late 2010. I have to see this baby in action. I'm impressed, and I think it's an awesome way to be portable. I've been hoping to acquire a brew rig, but it'd be a pain to move it and deal with it in my garage or yard. You have that all solved. It's amazing. Thanks for the pictures.

I'm just seeing this for the first time and it's so friggin sweet. You can take credit for the tippy dumps because at least you saw it through, I never bolted my kegs to them. I do shop vac clean-in-place though. Either way, dibs on a brewday next time I'm out in Phoenix.

this thing is just to funny LOL.

this needs to be in a parade with you brewing.

all it needs is a shower for your beer babe!

Bobby, thanks and your on.
rarjr, I would need to install kladues upgrades to try that, but alas I think soon I will be pushing the weight limit of the trailer or the tow capacity of my Cobalt. Everybody laugh now. "He's pulling that trailer with a Cobalt?" :D

Dude, Get a bigger trailer with a greater weight capacity. You are gonna need it.

Frekin Awsome.

And Just because I like being part of the crowd.... You do indeed suffer from MAJOR suckness.

Had to look this up and see your progress, since we were talkin down at What Ale's ya... Nice to meet you btw.

Lookin good, and I hope to see this thing in action =)

Lookin' good... Looking forward to seeing the finished thing in action - it was impressive enough without the automation...

sorry kevin had some personal issues( I met my next ex missus), I did manage to get the plywood painted. Its so hot here now I just cant bear to go into the garage when I get home from work. Getting up early the next couple days to try and get it pic worthy before going into work.

Seriously.. supposed to be ~116 this weekend? Killin me.. I just cut the wood for my collar tonight, going to try and wrap it up this week. With the heat, even after the sun goes down, its hard to get motivated to sit out there and work on a project =/

Now that's hot and well beyond any person's comfort zone.
I had a high today of 72 with 20% fog overcast our normal
San Francisco east bay on the bay summer weather. Now at
9:43 PM and holding 62 degrees. My well water is up to 63.2*F.
All time recorded temps, low 30.7, high 102.3*F, I must add a
higher humidity year round.

I'm starting the day before the sun comes up so it should be a nice balmy 95*. 20 mins later it will be 105*. That is where my comfort zone ends but I need to brew soon or go crazy, and BYO is pushing for pics. Thank you(I think) to whoever pointed them at me. :D

Update: The control box and wiring are done. Most of the control board programing complete. Wet run complete. The boiler vents worked great to keep the pumps purged of air. All of the solenoid valves worked well on manual. Having a problem with the intermittent pilot system, the wiring seems to check out. I ran out of my comfort zone this morning so will jump the ignitors in the morning to check them. Have to put BYO on hold, I don't want it written up until its a beermachine.

Your project looks great! We are trying to build a similar automated brewing system from scratch and are in the process of figuring how we are connecting everything before we go and buy all the fittings and parts. Can you provide any more info about how your system is plumed? Here is our current plan.
2 pumps, 3 vessel HERMS setup using the HERMS coil for mashing and cooling.

Also, where did you get your electronic SS valves? we are still looking! are they 12v?

Any details on you system would help us out alot

Liquid valves are 110VAC and gas valves are 24VAC. The SS ones came from a chinese manufacturer and had to be bought with wire transfer to a personal account. I was very worried about that but all was well. I'll try to find the address when I get back from vacation. If you wanted to go brass I have some new ones that I could let go at 60% what I payed for them. The brewtroller is 12 volt to power the relay boards that control the valves, pumps(110VAC) and burners(24VAC) It is being wired through 13 3 position switches so each circuit can be either in automatic, manual, or off. switching isn't necessary except for overriding automatic control or in case of computer failure. I'm on my third rewire and hope to get some professional help when I get back from vacation. I really hate taking pics of parts that are not complete hence no control box pics yet. Perhaps within the next month. The desert is down to 104- 107* I will soon return to spending more time completing the rig, I sorely miss homebrew. That should be the end of the whining and excuses. ;D
