Help. PLEASE help a brother out. I figure you'se guys know how to drink beer.

My question is this:

Do any of you drink your beer w/ a piece of fruit? Lemon, orange, grapefruit, mango, kiwi or whatever.

Me, I'm a beer purist. Gimme beer and give it now. nekkid and pure.

just wondering

This is a very difficult question to answer.

I think that to drink a beer, a glass of iced tea, soda, whatever.... is a difficult proposition.

Once you've committed to purchase the beverage, you have the difficult task ahead of you of actually drinking it.

The beverage is right there... on the counter, bar, table... just taunting you.

It's right there.... making fun of you... telling you you're not a man if you can't drink me....

It's calling you weak, and a sissy.... and you feel pathetic that you can't master the art of drinking a beverage.

And then... instinctively... You pick the glass up and pull it ever closer to your mouth, as if you've always known how to drink liquid.

The glass comes closer and closer to your mouth and still.... the beverage taunts you... "You don't know how to drink a beer - you moron"

And then.... THEN... the glass reaches your mouth and you begin to think that you can do it.

But.... the liquid enters your mouth and you gag as it reaches the back of your throat. You have to spit it out because the concept of drinking liquid of any kind is so new to you, you just can't understand how anybody could do something so complicated as drinking liquid.

You decide to give it another shot...

and so on... and so on...

Just stick the slice of lemon or lime or whatever the heck you want to put in the beer... and just drink the damm thing.

I enjoy all kinds of fruit beers. I also enjoy stouts, porters, ambers and IPA's. People who hate on fruit beers and make fun of people who enjoy fruit beers are what I call beer snobs. Fruit beers get a bad wrap sometimes but they are another way of creating more great beer!! That's what it's all about!!

Haha was reading this on the way to dinner... Only beer I hadn't tried was a cherry wheat By Sammy...

Came with a cherry in the bottom. Extra cherry.... Last time I get this beer.

Cheers.

A fruit beer brewed that way - maybe (haven't had one I liked so far). Fruit wedge?? The lemon in a wheat beer mid summer sounds like it might be ok. Corona or Blue moon - the first thing I do is remove the crap! Of course I do not order those any more!!

I remove the orange wedge from a Blue Moon if I order one, which means they didn't have something much better.

I walked outside and pulled a lemon off the tree in my front yard, I squeezed a bit into BierMuncher's Centennial Blonde, and I liked it!

I can deal with a little lemon or lime here and there, but I am not a fan of any other fruits or spices.

That there is a genuine watermelon wheat. I brew my wheats with a good dose of acid malt which makes them very refreshing but also quite tart. The watermelon adds a nice floral aroma and a little sweetness.

I agree with the lime in the Corona thing. Though I think I'd rather eat the lime and dump the Corona.

Same with a Blue Moon. If they give me a orange, I eat the orange and drink the beer.

A long time ago, when Mexico was not known for it's sanitary standards, people started using limes or lemons to wipe the top of their Mexican beers. they were using the acid in the citrus to make the top of the bottle acceptable for putting the mouth on.
Soon guys were squeezing the lime to add a bit of flavor to the beer.
Corona, Tecate, Modelo, My personal favorite Pacifico, it did not matter.
Later guys started shaking a tad of salt in the neck and then wiping the lime.
It has caught on here in Southern California and it is not uncommon to see guys doing the ritual when drinking a Mexican beer. It is actually good, a shake of salt, wipe the rim and squeeze the lime and then push the lime into the bottle.
Try it, you might just like it.

I allow guys to be all the beer snobs they want to be, it leaves more beer for me
lets face it, the Mexicans have a very strong German influence in their beer style and it is great beer, If you hate it, go ahead, that is jsut one less person competing for beer I like.
Didn't Jesus Christ say something about cutting off the nose to spite the face?

I like Negra modelo.
Really ice cold high life or pbr draft in a frosty mug, almost have to hit it with a dash of salt. You are already holding the salt from using it on the picked eggs.

Mmm..pickled eggs. All the bars that used to have that stuff are gone now. I remember that and those tiny little old-man glasses they'd server the beer in. They were like 6-7 oz. A beer was 35 cents. Plus free peanuts. Add a 19 inch TV mounted to the wall with the game on and you were set for the night.

Lotta Corona haters on here. Nothing better than a Corona and lime, or a BUD light lime, when you're sitting on the beach. I'm just sayin....

I think a lot of people hate certain beers because of the name. I bet if the people that say they hate corona did a blind taste test and we told them it was a special release German lager, they would like it. Granted I don't like a lot of the BMC beers, not because of who makes them but because they taste gross. I don't think bud light is good tasting but I do drink it if there is nothing else or at parties like tailgating. I won't drink miller or coors lite.

I do like corona. Nothing beats a really cold corona on the beach.

I'm glad to see the fruit in beer supporters are out! :D Now I'm not going to go adding all sorts of crazy fruits to every beer style I drink, but like many people are saying, Corona with lime (dos equis with lime is also good), american hefeweizen with lemon, on a hot day, why the heck not?! Is beer not just a combination of different ingredients? So if we add lemon zest with coriander and ginger in the secondary we've come up with a creative play on the natural beer flavors and we are creative craft brewers, but if we add a slice of fresh fruit with its clean and bright aromas and flavors to the beer when serving, we are somehow covering up or masking some type of bad flavor or sub par beer ... I figure if it tastes good, there is a nice flavor balance and you want to drink another one when you notice your empty glass, you've got a winner!! Another thing to note is that fruit in beer is usually a summertime habit, which makes perfect sense, it's seasonal fruit! I also get a strong craving for mojitos when it gets hot out... that patch of mint in our backyard starts practically calling my name!

Just made it down to Florida from Pennsylvania. Brought some homebrew..... Might have to trade for some warm weather beer.

I, too, had my share of pickled eggs way-back-when. And those kielbasa in that metal and glass roto-skewer machine with the light inside. And the dill pickles. And the pinball machine for a dime a game. In those college days, there was a bar that was way too convenient: literally out the back door of our apt., down a few steps, and right into their back door. They had 20-cent drafts and 90-cent pitchers (5-6 glasses). Maybe not such a good deal, considering it was Koch's.:p

Drank a lot of Koch's, Old Vienna splits. and Genny. I see you have WNY in your name. I went to school in Buffalo. Who knows? We might have been hanging out in the same bars. i miss those old corner dives.

It's like a Buffalo reunion! I grew up in WNY also. Went to school at UB. Remember Meister Brau? That stuff was awful. I drank a lot of Genny, OV splits and Labatt's too.

The only rules I have regarding drinking beer are these:

  • If you like the beer you are drinking, then drink it and have another
  • If you don't like the beer you are drinking, then drink it and dont order/brew that kind of beer again
  • If someone else is enjoying a beer, no matter what they are doing to or with it, be happy for them and dont worry about it

I say live and let live! Judge not lest ye be judged!
