I took a look at a bbs chocolate maple porter kit that was gifted to me for the holidays. The crush is terrible. Whole grains everywhere. Is anyone else seeing this?

I was really disappointed and then I ran it through my corona mill.

It did teach me something though. I will have to mount mine in a bucket. Having it on a bench mount makes getting the last bit of grain out difficult

When I did my BBS Chocolate Maple Porter this last weekend I didn't see but a couple of small whole grains..I actually thought it was ground a bit on the fine side, but it mashed well..

Somebody gave me one for Christmas and I thought the mash was perfectly fine, yours does sound like it was an anomoly

Does anyone actually know what the exact grist is for the chocolate maple porter? I'm hoping to figure out my efficiency on it. I ended up with 5.25 litres of 1.059 wort.

I don't think they disclose the grain bill other than saying "malted barley". They do list it at 6.5%, so if your FG figures 6.5%, you probably got like 60% efficiency. That's just a guess of what they figure beginning brewers will get, I highly doubt they are expecting 70% from someone who's never brewed before. You also did get more wort than they were expecting, so if you did get the 6.5% your efficiency is even higher
