At the Almanac beer dinner at O'Brien's we got the SF IPA, the Pils, and Dolores in terms of sampling the new beers that are getting canned. Granted they were keg pours but the SF IPA and Pils were both stellar IMO. I am so totally over hoppy beers brewed with a citrus fruit added, so I'm not entirely surprised by your review on that one. Pilsner had a very clean yet somewhat soft roundness if memory serves me well. Mostly comparing that to Heiress since I have 12oz of that probably 3-4 days a week :D
Not risking another 6pack purchase. I'll buy a single of the Pils and see.

So basically, they're good every other year? That's ******* exciting.
Like the Giants? Even year winners!

Not super into hoppy sours.

The big thing about the new versions is that they don't all taste the same. So that's a plus. The base beers and funk are pretty much the same as they've been, so it's not dramatically different.
Tangerine de Brettaville was legitimately great. Not sure why that series is so ignored.

I've had several hoppy beers from them and they ranged from drain pour to one-and-done. I really hope the pils is good and do find the posts about the sours making a turn for the better promising, though.

Why do people lose their minds for Bernice, then? (Not saying Brettaville is as good as Bernice, it goes without saying)
Cause it's Sante and bottled and good and not as widely produced as Farmhouse Noir?

I don't know, that's always a headscratcher for me when I drink it. It's good, but come on.

A good challenge here is to find a saison better than Bernice (I currently have not, which is why I go crazy for it). You've piqued my curiosity concerning Brettaville though.

Saisons are such a weird ass style/category now. For me, Saison Dupont is still the best saison. I guess I would prefer Bernice to it...and they're both Saisons. Nobody is going around saying their favorite belgian specialty ale or whatever.

This if a fairly useless post except, yes, you should at least give one of the brettaville series a try.

...Well how are they?
Wasn't that impressed with anything tbh. Somebody mentioned previously how they came with an empty growler and left without getting it filled. I'm in the same boat. Post Coast IPA was the best offering, followed by Visitation Pils. Way Fun IPA and Totes Pale both unremarkable. No bold flavors, all kinda middle of the road brews. It is a great space and I'm not writing them off completely however. I'll definitely be back, I'm just on the side that thinks they need a little more time to come into their own before I write them off.

I can't wait to get to Temescal. I'm hoping to get there next Thursday. I've really enjoyed all the beers so far, especially the Porter. Haven't tried the Saison yet.
To be fair, have not had either their porter or the saison. I'm definitely rooting for them to succeed, and think they have the ability to pump out some good beer.

I had the Pils on Monday. I enjoyed, would drink again.

Not sure I would fill a Growler of any Pils.

Anyone going to be around Walnut Creek today? Good chance I end up at some of the local spots there this afternoon. Tomorrow possibly some combo of Cellarmaker/Fieldwork/Rare Barrel before I fly out to China.

I work in WC but won't get off until closer to 7:30-8:00. Was going to go by Rare Barrel tonight on the way home but can def meet up for a drink or 3 if you're still out and about. Sunol Ridge has a decent tap and Ol is good bottle shop.

Yup those were the ones I was thinking about (might possibly take the train up to Concord as well). If I'm out and about I'll drop you a line on here with my location.

If you want I could also pick you up and take you to Fieldwork and/or Rare Barrel. I could drop you back off at Bart afterwards. Just a thought. This way you could hit up SF tomorrow.

Just left Walnut creek, I could have hung around a while. Oh well. Heading to Fieldwork later on this afternoon.

If any of you live in the East Bay, i've got three empty 12-bottle shippers that are yours for the taking if you come pick them up in North Oakland. They're the thick styrofoam kind. Just sent me a PM, and we'll work out logistics.
