Specific numbers aside, the point is there is plenty of $$ leftover if you're single and have an income around $100k.
I declined the offer of 80k and they offered to bump it up to 90k+ if I go out there next week to meet them and see if everything clicks. as a single guy with little/no responsibilities, this is very tempting.

Don’t be afraid to ask for more at this point....just make sure you can justify it (moving, change in benefits, etc)

That is good news. Good luck with your decision. I would shake the magic eight ball and hope: "all signs point to hella yes."

edit: If they are willing to go $10+k over original offering and they are very interested. Maybe test the outer range.

$100k plus moving incidentals and a company golf cart.

Do you need to live alone? My buddy has a room opening in Oceanview (near the outer Mission/Balboa Park) for $725/month plus utilities. His post went up on Facebook 15 min ago.

they mentioned moving costs without me bringing it up, definitely a plus.

looks like I'll be at Toronado around 6 next Tuesday for a beer or two.

Keep in mind relocation payments can get hit with like 45% in taxes. That happened to me when I relocated to SF. But also keep in mind, movimg costs for a new job are tax deductible, so keep ALL receipts, etc.

yeah, but the deduction rules changed this year so it probably makes more sense to take the standard deduction, it did in my case at least.

Seriously? ******* taxes. #TaxationIsTheft

We usually beat the standard deduction, but you need to have HUGE itemized deductions this year to beat the standard.

Kind of a bummer, because overall it's just less of a return. Unless, you know, you're a corporation.

******* DO IT. Borrow that shut-the-box game from Upright and accidentally leave it at Sante so you can continue your reign of domination down here.

Had no clue there was interest in the Bay. I’ll start bringing mine whenever I head down.

A mortgage of over $300-350k basically and maxing out the SALT deduction, at least as a married couple.

I don't know exactly what voodoo goes on in turbotax's black box, but I'm pretty sure we're itemizing with a normal bay area mortgage, SALT, and childcare expenses (IIRC something about daycare, I dunno I just plug in numbers). I'm just glad that my wife managed to get the withholding close to right, it looks like we won't owe much if anything.

A lot of our deductions are phased out due to income, which is ironic given that low-income is around $117k and median income is $118 in the area. In other parts of the country, median is closer to 2x of low.

Definitely...well, you can't deduct stuff like food but all charges directly related to the move can be claimed. I declared at least 5K of moving expenses and on TurboTax it only increased my return by like $600. Still better than nothing.

Chances are for that level of a job they're not offering a relo package, but giving a signing bonus. Probably the best tax situation. Good luck in the interview box_social !

What the **** is B3K? Have I turned into one of those old BA guys who whines about everything having an acronym these days?
I’m pretty much in the same boat. On the rare occasion I look at the trade forums these days, I never know what folks are talking about. As evidence of my geezerness, check out the bottle I have on my avatar and that should illustrate my inclusion on the endangered species list.

As for B3K, it’s Fremont Brew 3000.

Okay. So I still don’t know what it is.

Which is fine

I guess that's understandable since the SF Bay Area was excluded from Fremont's distribution footprint until now. Brew 3000 is this year's bourbon barrel barleywine from them. This is big news because Fremont makes delicious beer and we now have access to it.

I remember being really excited to try their stuff because everyone hyped it up and really disappointed once I actually did.

I guess different strokes and all of that... Out of curiosity, which beers were you disappointed in? I’m not the biggest fan of their spiced beers but everything else I’ve had has been solid. I prefer KDS over Parabola in terms of widely distributed stouts. Bbomb (bourbon barrel abominable) is incredible and ages beautifuly. Brew 1000 is one of the best barleywines I’ve ever had. Looking forward to having their year round stuff too.

The fresh hop beers they do are incredible.

BBomb, Rusty Nail, KDS, a bunch of variants of those. They're not bad, they're just fine. But I've been finding myself harder and harder to please with BA stuff lately, the only BA beer I've been really wowed by lately was Sight and Mind, Bottle Logic's English Barleywine.

That’s fair. I happen to think they’re among the best in the category of shelf products available in NorCal and SoCal. Didn’t get a chance to try Sight and Mind but I do enjoy much of Bittle Logic’s other barrel aged beers. Pricing’s a bit on the high side so I never stock up though.

I mean, that's probably still true, the selection of shelf BA stuff out here is garbage. I'm fond of Eclipse but past that it's like Firestone and ????

I actually talked about that with Tim from Sante the other day, he was saying that they want to start doing more in the BA barleywine/stout veins, but given their microbiome it's tough. We'll see how the collaboration stout with Side Project with turns out, hopefully it's clean and they start doing more (and maybe packaging it!).

I think that's why this Fremont development is so significant for me--good shelf BA stuff is hard to come by out here. Heck, even most of the brewery-only BA stuff isn't that exciting to me, though I did have a taste of Drake's "Death of the Sun" at the Dealership that was pretty tasty. I'm not sure how you feel about Modern Times, but their barrel program's gotten a lot better (Modem Tones Beautiful Meadows was probably my favorite BA beer of 2018) and they have plans to open a location in Uptown.

I'd love to see some non-sour BA stuff from Sante, but I need to get admitted into their club first. Been on it for the last 4 or 5 years and don't think it's going to happen unless I devote monthly trips to Santa Cruz this year.
