Sure, but you're also putting in $25k/year into savings doing that. It's hardly a suffering wage, even here.

I think if you're not saving at least 25% of your gross salary, you're being irresponsible. I have yet to meet a beer geek who is irresponsible.

And I am confident one of us is balls deep in mezcal right now.

Coming down for Father’s Day weekend with my wife. Kiddo staying with my parents.

I think we’re gonna stay in Nob Hill and won’t be renting a car. Got Cellarmaker, Toronado and City Beer on radar. Indifferent to Mikkeler.

Last time I was in the Bay Area was 2004 and most of our time was spent in wine county. I don’t give a **** about touristy stuff, I’ve done it all before. Just want awesome beer, awesome coffee, awesome food and awesome whiskey for the wife. Stuff locals like is way cooler. I like walking.

Suggestions?

You're starting off strong with that list. Add in maybe Nihon and Bourbon & Branch for whiskey, Nopa and Trou Normand for food -- maybe State Bird if you want to go to that level.

You should probably also try to visit SARA and hump their foudres.

Thanks. But of a bummer a lot of stuff isn’t in the city but oh well. I’m sure I’ll have a good time no matter what.

I’d love to but that ain’t happening.

If the weather is nice, head down to the Ferry Building and check out the farmers market on Saturday (if I'm selling blueberries in the back, say hi). Great food, both in the building and the market. Then take the ferry over to Alemeda and walk down to St George, Faction and Almanac and enjoy some of the nicest views of the city over some tasty beverages. Then Uber to somewhere in Oaktown or to bart to head back to city. Pretty good morning/early afternoon if the weather cooperates.

You had me at farmers market. Thanks, this is the kind of stuff we do at home in Seattle and love to find on our travels.

You'll really like the market then, especially in June. It's pricey, but has one of the best selections of high quality local produce in the world, imo.

We’ve got a year round farmers market near us in Seattle that we walk to pretty much every Saturday, will be nice to hit one down there.

Conundrum... in town on 3/17.
Obviously it may a bit busier at usual drinking spots. I was hoping to do the out of towners route (Toronado, Cellarmaker, Monks Kettle, etc). Is there a place to avoid on St.Patricks? A must do? Will these popular spots be completely jammed? Not a fan of butts to nuts crowds.

Flying solo so if anyone is around I’ll buy first round.

Or Berkeley via Uber?
I’m thinking of a Rare Barrel/Fieldwork stop.

City itself, I've thought about doing the Uber route to Rare Barrel/Fieldwork but might not make sense. We'll see. My wife is all for me checking out beer stuff and we like playing cards and hanging out at breweries and bars, but at the same time this isn't a beer trip.

Get in Friday at 10am, leave Sunday at 6pm.

The only place you mentioned that might be affected by the “holiday” is Cellarmaker. I’d expect that it’s just normal weekend crowds at all of them though.

Are any of the other breweries in the city worth visiting?
Sequoia Sake: it's not even my favorite sake, but IMO it's worth a visit just to see how a craft sake brewery operates. (They've recently started making some very interesting barrel-aged variants, if the trendiness doesn't offend you.)

Also, Barebottle is right around the corner. I've never been, but their beer is pretty good, and the brewpub always looks rather appealing whenever I pass by.

Cellarmaker's second location (also walking distance) has some dope pizza and gets stuff from Monkish/Highland Park seemingly regularly.

Brando is correct about other breweries, however I would say the Anchor tour is like the one brewery tour that's worth doing. Of course, it used to be free with unlimited drinking after and now it's $25 with like six samples, but it's a good tour! You have to schedule it a fair amount ahead of time.

Also if you're into whiskey, the aforementioned spots are very good, I would add Hardwater since it has the best selection in the state.

I haven’t been to Monk’s Kettle in years. Has it changed at all in the last like six years? How has it held up compared to other places? With that recent inquiry, I realized that it has completely fallen off my radar.

I would never recommend someone who’s on vacation without their child go to Bare Bottle. It’s a brewery/daycare hybrid.

I met someone there recently for an IP trade and it was exactly the same as in 2011.

I would second the trip that was suggested about farmers market + taking the ferry to alameda. Sure it won't have the best beer but it will be the best experience for a traveler. I would end the night in the Cellarmaker House of Pizza area. There's plenty to do in the lower mission / bernal heights area. I do agree that there are too many children at barebottle. After 8pm they ask all children to leave though. Plenty of games for you to play with your wife there and not too far of a walk from cellarmaker house of pizza. Just did the walk this past weekend.

Yeah, that sounds like a better use of my time than Ubering to Rare Barrel and Fieldwork. I've had plenty of RB over the years (and they distro up here now) and it doesn't look like it will be a problem finding FW on tap around the city.

One of us always has a deck of Skipbo on us when we travel in the event we end up at a brewery or a bar. We spent so many hours at Dieu du Ciel in Montreal doing that on our 10th anniversary trip. Got our daughter into it this past fall in Japan, too.

West Coast Philly Monk’s Cafe?

Noooooo! I think Toro is tapping the Fremont stouts tonight, or soon.

Damn, didn't know this. I was trying to look for other Fremont events but couldn't find any. Will it just be Fremont stouts? No B3k action?

Edit: Looks like Toro's rescheduling to 4/2, but they have Coco Bbomb on tap. Kinda tempted to head out that way for a pour, but I have a couple of bottles so maybe not.
