Apfelwein and Brown Sugar

So I getting my Apfelwein set this weekend, and I want to possibly use brown sugar, but I wanted to know what type of flavor it added. Maple flavor?

Has anyone used light and dark?

What was the flavor difference?

Brown sugar is kinda rum-like when fermented.

Brown sugar tastes more like molasses than maple. I've never gotten maple flavor out of brown sugar.

Since I HATE molasses, I don't like fermented brown sugar. Lots of people do like it though.
