I am considering buying a used turkey fryer that has an automatic shutoff timer. Does anyone know if these timers are easy to disconnect or bypass w/o affecting the operation of the burner? Is it just as simple as cutiing wires?

Sort of a ghetto way of 'fixing' it, but I just duct tape the little timer knob so that it's always at the 15 minute position. Works so far, I just have to put new tape on every couple months when the old tape starts peeling off.

If you want a more permanent solution you can usually take the timer boxes apart and remove the spring inside them, effectively doing the same thing as what the tape trick does.

I believe on some brands you can bypass the timer entirely and just screw the hose into the burner, but YMMV.

I have a pair of them with timers that look very much like that (the timers themselves). I opened up the timer housing, disconnected the two wires connected to the timer itself, and connected them directly to eachother - basically taking the timer out of the circuit. Worked like a charm.

so that this can be turned back into a turkey fryer if needed.

The timer has no effect on cooking a turkey. It is there for people too stupid to remember to cut the burner off after the turkey is done. You should never deep fry something with one of those and leave it alone. As long as you are not one of those people you don't need the timer

+1 for the duct tape. I have had it on my fryer for close to a year. I wound the dial all the way and wrapped the tape around a few times. The whole process took less than 2 minutes. I have cleaned the burner with a water hose and have had no problems at all. Easy as making and extract beer.

Do both wires need to be diconnected from the timer or can I just pull one out and then join the wires? The left wire is soldered to the box.

Sorry for the slow response - if you haven't figured this out already, you'll need to cut the soldered side off. You need to have both ends free to join them together.
