I play with the thought of expanding my keg system. I have an antique fridge with 3 taps and a separate 2 tap nitro mini fridge. The only way I would get rid of my 1947 refrigerator is if I can expand to like 8+ taps.

BUT.....I gotta have a black freezer. The white ones are just so...white?

All I find anywhere is 7cf max for black. I supposed one could paint the outside but the gasket would still be white...and your never gonna get as nice a finish as the factory.

Do they just not make them? Did they ever? Is there just no market?

I'm guessing the market for huge black chest freezers isn't strong enough to service it and take the supply chain impact.
It wouldn't take much to have a hinged custom lid or a collar hide the white oem gasket if one wanted to paint the chassis...

Cheers!

I painted the keg fridge black with a flat finish acrylic paint and used a roller . Worked well.
Tried a self adhesive vinyl first, it went on well and then just bubbled up everywhere and looked awful plus had lines as the roll was only a certain width.

That said the people who do vinyl? wraps for cars ( which is durable stuff ) would be able to do a freezer real easy.

Love to see how that comes out.

I used spraycan appliance paint to refinish a centrifuge at work and it held up well. I used white but I think it comes in black as well. It was an epoxy, so it was a little different than regular spray paint.

about what I figured...no market for big & black...

I'm torn between wanting more taps and my old 3 tap 1947 Westinghouse.

Don't have room for both.

I painted a white kegerator black with appliance paint. It turned out great.

Tips, buy more cans than you think you will need.
Do it on a warm dry day in a ventilated area.
Make sure the object to be painted is clean.
Put all cans in a bucket of really hot water for 5-10 minutes before use. (Softens the paint and increases the pressure in the can, it will flow better.)
Once you start, continue spraying until done, don't take a break. Appliance paint needs several days to cure before additional coats.
Buy a good quality of paint. I think I bought Krylon appliance paint.

I agree err towards saving. If you're sentimental about it's looks just take the door / doors off and mount them on the wall with the taps and dispense via them ( concealed pipes of course ).

old school cool....and yes, they use WAY LESS electricity than a new fridge since they don't go into a heat/defrost cycle every few hours...they get cold and stay cold...just like a deep freezer.

I just find 3 taps limiting...I could do 4 but then the 20# bottle goes outside and looks like crap... The other fridge will only support 2 kegs and a smaller bottle. Not worth the permanent alteration.

I wish I had seen all the monster freezer setups before I got the old fridges. It would fit the space. But everyone how comes over for beer just loves the set up.

I'm wondering how many kegs will fit the 7cf black freezers? Fit on the floor? I could ditch my 2 tap nitro mini fridge and perhaps squeeze a 7cf into the space. I could pair with my heavy Belgians...

That one on the left the 1947? looks nice.
I reckon you might get a big freezer in the gap and could even just box it in to hide it that would give you more freezer options and then plumbed carefully that very characterful left fridge door on the wall to the left with a few more taps on. Could look really good. I started with 3 taps and then scaled up now at 6 but luckily rest of beers will be at cellar temp, I've got a wooden door atypical size and position that I might clad with something interesting to put the taps on now I have this idea. Maybe part of a car?
