Up until now, I have been using a kettle lid on my keggle. It fits, and holds in the heat to get the boil going. Once the boil is jumping, I take off the lid to let the evil stuff out.

Even using a heat stick along with the burner, the lid worked. I just moved it aside a bit to allow room for the heatstick.

Now, I use 2 heatsticks instead of a propane burner.

Problem is, the lid no longer does any good. The sticks don't let it sit right.

I wonder if heavy aluminum foil would work as a "lid"? I can pitch it into the recycle bin when the boil gets jumping.

Anybody ever tried that?

Since you are using heat-sticks, consider wrapping the keggle with some insulation. A stock water heater wrap should be enough to give you two layers.

THIS

I use a big aluminum turkey pan as a lid when I am cooling the wort.
That might be something you could use.

I was looking at the "keggle insulation" thread when the aluminum foil thought occured to me.

What are those water heater wraps made of, fiberglass?

I was thinking of that foil-bubblewrap stuff, with a nylon strap to hold it in place.
