Soooo, new Coolship Single Barrel One???

I might be going totally insane, but a few weeks ago I thought I saw a new allagash label on one of those sites with label approvals, like BeerPulse or BeerStreetJournal (it's neither of those, I looked), for a new 375 mL wild with strawberries. I can't find it now. It had a number in the name. Does anyone know what I'm talking about/able to find this online somewhere?

NVM just found it. 31 and then some. Brett, Mosaic, strawberries and oak. Sounds like it will either be amazing or a catastrophe.

whats available at Allagash? a good friend of mine is coming back home for Christmas and she offered to pick up some gooooods!

More fun Coolship stuff...

Glad they're finally playing around with it a bit more. Based on recent CS releases, seems like they've had the supply capacity to do stuff like this for a while now.

Now just give us more new fruited Coolships k thx.

I that the wort they brewed with OC guys?

posted yesterday:

"Wow, amazing day. All the way back in 1993, Rob brewed his first batch of beer: Copper Ale at Otter Creek. Twenty three years later, the Otter Creek Brewing crew came by Allagash to brew a batch of Copper Ale (according to that recipe way back when). We finished the day off by putting it in the coolship; we’ll see what happens next. A great day with great beer friends!"

Can anyone who has had both Spon and Resurgam compare the two? Curious as to why there's so much fanfare about the Jester King "gueuze" while Resurgam sat on the shelf for a few weeks. I sense it's because Allagash doesn't command the hype/attention in the same way, but maybe I'm wrong.

Because new money doesn't even know what it is.

Because Resurgam is terrible, obviously. Not sure why anyone would want it. Definitely go after Spon instead.

I've only had Spon once but based off of that bottle, I much prefer resurgam. I remember it being good but simple and missing some character/substance on the back end. Then again that's based off of my terrible memory and of course I didn't write anything else down about it to give you any real constructive feedback... I've got the variants to work through as well so maybe those will be more memorable.

You're right that allagash has never gotten the hype it deserves (not that I'm complaining). Even though more people are just now taking to American, geuze-style beers, resurgam just seems to continue to get overlooked since it's now produced in fairly large quantities with high/no bottle limits by a brewery more well known for a go-to craft beer option when there's nothing else available at crappy bars (white).

I think resurgam is one of the best American gueuze-style beers around along with Backacre. I haven't had Spon though to compare.

The biggest thing that keeps me from buying a ton of it is the price. $15/375ml is pretty steep when you can find Mariage Parfait on the shelf for almost half that. Then you look at beers from places like Tilquin which come in around the same price point, but they also have a ton of shipping and distribution costs driving that price up, while Allagash's Coolships never leave the brewery. Then you look at to-go prices at Cantillion and it makes you wonder why Allagash can't/won't bring their prices down. The fact that Resurgam is still available two months after the release speaks much more to the pricing than the quality of the beer imo.

With all respect to Jester King, who I am a huge fan of, they have kind of been acting like they are the first people to ever do American gueuze, with the whole Methode Spon or whatever it is (which I do think is a neat idea in the service of education, if not still slightly pretentious...).

The first and very early batches of Resurgam are no where near as good as the past few releases. I haven't tried and probably won't get to try SPON but I have no doubt that the first SPON releases will probably not be as good as the future versions. This style takes years and years to really learn, and even then it's still an evolving process.

Ok my crotchety homer rant is done now :)

I think I had Spon 3 and Resurgam 2013ish? I didn't get much similarity. Coolship was significantly more tart lemon and acidic. I would say that beer appeals more to "sour" fans. Spon was balanced funk with lighter tartness. Like a funky saison with a backblend of lambic. That review excludes the 3 other Spons and every other Resurgam release so it's beyond subjective. Had the latest Cerise on NYE. My favorite coolship yet. Tart cherry pie.
