I went to a Ferris State Hockey game this Saturday (they lost, boo!) And I was wearing my New Holland jacket. The guy behind me asked if that was brewing related and where do I brew?

I told him my garage! He must have thought I worked for a brewery or something. He said he was interested in brewing himself and asked if it was hard and of course I told him it's as easy as making spaghetti and as hard as he wants to make it.

Then of course the next period started and it was getting really loud and I am trying to watch the game. I wish I had a pen so I could write down a couple of websites to send him. I thought about making up some business cards to carry around.

It sucks to have the opportunity to help someone start in on this wonderful hobby and no good way to do it. I kind of feel like I let him down. He probably will never get to the point of looking online or buying a book.

I think he's a regular, because my wife told me that she overheard the guys behind us saying that his wife was the star player from last year's mom. I might see him again next time we go.

I usually say that too, but it was getting loud in there and I was hunting for something to write it down on, but we had nothing and then the game was back on. That's why I think of the business card thing. I can carry one or two on my person and hand them out. But it doesn't happen THAT often. Just when I least expect it!

Say, doesn't the teach a friend to homebrew thing happen pretty soon?? I need to get some people together and demonstrate.

After yakking at a rep at Midwest one day - as an afterthought - I asked if they could send a couple extra catalogs to me seeing as though I'm always giving my old ones away to curious folks. They sent me a 20 stack.

I work at a winery so, after that, when people ask me where I got started/ previous experience before this place, I tell them I did some beer homebrewing. If they seem interested in that, or if they go off on making wine at home, I give them one of Midwest Distributing catalogs.
