Hello everyone!
I made a yeast starter of wyeast 1332 northwest ale yeast on Saturday night to have ready for my Monday morning brew. I brewed an Oatmeal Stout w an OG of 1076. I used oxygen before pitching. About 36 hrs later I checked on the beer and my airlock was on the floor, foam everywhere, it was just a mess. Cleaned it, checked it out again and air lock was in the floor again and foam everywhere. Cleaned it again and now I'm at work just worried that it's going to happen again. Usually the head in the fermenter is only a couple inches. This is most vigorous fermentation I've ever experienced.

So should I be worried?

Should I start using a blow off tube until fermentation slows down?

Thanks and any other advice will be much appreciated!!

Either blowoff tube or just put some foil loosely over the top and let it foam over. It's a pain to clean up but whatever. No need to worry about infection. Once it's not foaming over anymore pop a new airlock on it.

Use a blowoff tube. Infection shouldn't be an issue, as the outgassing from the yeast should keep air from flowing in while it was open.
