I have a vial of unopened/unused White Labs California Ale Yeast that I was going to use for a batch that I ended up deciding to not finish during the initial brewing phase.

My friend violently shook up the yeast in the vial to prep for pouring it in the fermentation vessel once the time came about 6 hours later. Obviously, we didn't use the yeast and put it back in the fridge to possibly use at a later date.

My question is, if the yeast was out for a few hours and shaken like so...will that affect the yeast in a future batch? Just a simple answer would be fine. Thanks in advance.

Actually it is a good idea to shake up the tube, if you don't and just pitch it you will usually find the main yeast clump is still stuck to the bottom of the tube, and you've just pitched mostly the little bit of starter beer or whatever it is called, and not the nice clump of yeast.

I always shake mine up. It doesn't hurt them. You just have to be aware that you will have a bit of a gush when you open the tube, because of the co2 inthere.
