So I am about 90% done with my electric rig - only waiting for the 5500W element to show up - and today I completed the wiring of my panel.
However, I turn on the main breaker today and POP. The 50A GFCI in my subpanel trips and a blue spark emits from the cord grip holding my 10/4 wire to my control panel... After a couple of hours trying to debug the system, the only way I can get the breaker to not trip, is to disconnect the ground. Obviously this isn't a good thing
Come to find out, I had tightened the cord grip in the subpanel too much and it literally caused a small rupture in the sheathing shorting one of the hot lines and the ground. Cut the wire down a few inches, re-connected everything and it works like a charm now :rockin:
So when little details like how much to torque down screws and that sort of thing come along... don't ignore them...
