I'm assuming that there're members who like this thread and want to continue posting here. I've considered moving it to the same place as the TR, sorta off the strip, but that would exclude a few of you. Thoughts?

Your call. I'd love to continue posting here, keeping it lively, enjoying a friendly camaraderie with folks I like. But they left, so....

I've no idea what the TR is but I miss my daily dose of memes and wish someone would have asked for opinions before just moving that to the paid for area.

And before anyone says I should just pay, let me explain why that doesn't work for me. I get to pay extra by the time my bank charges the exchange rate and don't get to enter any of the comps. So I'd basically be paying for the debate sections where I can watch you all argue about gun ownership and presidential candidates.....and memes.

I agreed to the terms when I signed up so even though I don't understand why I can't swear in a forum that is designated NSFW and requires you to be over 21 to join I'll comply.

It has slowed a little here today but I'll still be around and friendly! :mug:

IMO It was a bummer when a MOD locked the thread however there was probably more that was not seen that added to a MOD feeling it was necessary.

Here are mine for anyone who is interested.

We had and still have a pretty fun thread chat room or whatever you want to call it.

Unlike other private chat rooms it is formed by a group who actually want to chat and have a laugh together.

So interactions are generally positive and upbeat. I like the mood here. I also like that all topics from idiotic to interesting are covered and not sneered at.

It is a friendly thread. That friendliness should and in my view, must extend toward mods who so graciously and thanklessly give of their time to police this site.


I don't view arguing with the cops and then wondering why they are being hard on you as a smart move in life. Same applies here.

Why folks feel the need to sabotage this chat area is beyond me. I know many don't frequent other parts of the forum. I do and plan on continuing to benefit from and try to contribute to HBT. I hold this site in high esteem.

This chat thread is one room in a giant building. Like it or not you gotta conform to the landlords rules. This is not hard as is proven by 30000k plus posts of conformism.

I can't stop y'all from chatting elsewhere. I enjoy the virtual company in breaks from work. It is something I will miss. I see no valid reason for throwing our toys from the pram in this way.

I'm sure many will disagree with me and if I lose some friends as a result, so be it.

If y'all stick around I look forward to continued chat. If not I'll be very sorry to no longer enjoy your fun.

Everything about this is spot on.

This was my "hangout" spot on this forum, but I'm still in the various technical threads quite a bit too, both to help others learn and to learn myself. And plan on still doing so even if this thread goes down.

But if people want to keep this thread going staying within confines of the rules set by underappreciated mods with a hard and thankless job, that'd be awesome. Otherwise it's been fun while it lasted.
 
I don't know how I feel anymore. The incident with Pappers and Yooper did leave a pretty sour taste in my mouth, that's for sure. I understand this isn't a private chatroom by any means, but that a friendly joke between two friends can lead to them shutting crap down because it doesnt fit her style of humor is just.. boy, I dunno. Then the Wes banning etc. I don't care to get dramatic and burn the place down but it does leave me a bit miffed such babysitting occurs in a 21+ forum off topic section. Apart from posting porn or some serious offenses there shouldn't be that much to moderate. Epic meme thread was a prime example of that. I'd browse that thread all the time and then it'd be locked and I couldn't even remember a single post that was out of the ordinary. 21+ site but a single cussword or off-flavor joke is enough to shut it down...

All this over a dick joke and the potential that some as yet registered user may stumble upon said dick joke and be offended? That seems reasonable.

Yeah... it would be different if any rules were broken after the initial lock.
 
When the police pull you over and give you a ticket. You don't have to agree with them. Behaving in a manner likely to provoke their ire is not wise though.

I'm a member not a mod.

If you disagree with a mod PM Txbrew and outline why you disagree. I know this because a mod who is now admin has typed this many times. I've read it.

Move on all of us. Let's continue to enjoy HBT.

As I said before I don't expect all to agree with me but I do expect all members to follow the club rules. Not being an arsehead toward mods is a rule we are all very aware of.

In my earlier post I meant to type that friendliness should extend toward mods not to. I hope my meaning was nonetheless clear.

Landing has never been the issue. Traveling to Mars has never been the issue. Space is the issue. Outside Earths magnetic field, astronauts are subjected to deadly amounts of solar radiation and cosmic rays. Mars itself has a tiny atmosphere and almost non-existent magnetic field. So no help there with radiation. It's a deadly adventure just to travel/stay there.

Also, regardless what tv says, there's no way to produce enough breathable air much less create rocket fuel from the Martian atmosphere as it's 1/150th of Earths pressure. Even then, the composition is not condusive for either one.

Huge amount of supplies have to be sent first. But because of the position of the Earth relative to Mars in their orbits around the sun, there's only small windows to perform launches.

Earth is traveling about 67,000mph around the sun. Mars around 53,000mph. So when launching, you have to perfectly time the intersection because there's no way to catch up if a miss occurs. It's more an issue with coming back as the Earth is much faster. It's an amazing feat in science we can even do what we do now with planetary explorers.

I too like it here. You guys and gals are all right in my book and I really woudnt want to lose out on the all in good fun atmosphere that this thread was started on. I can only suspect that the downturn started around the time the almost feud with the TR started. It seems that until then we were left to our own devices and self regulated well. I don't want to poke the bears by saying anything about the moderation of this thread as we deserved it. Plus how will I spend my work time in the evenings if this place were to go away? Working? No thanks.
