Do you have some kind of template/photo you are going off of, or are you really good at getting the coloring and detail right? I'm impressed with your work, unless it's some kind of paint by numbers deal. In that case, you're a cheater.
No. I wanted a dark red cloak on these guys, so I went in first with a black base coat. Then I mix up a dark red color and layer and layer and layer glazes over the high points, and drag it into the low points to create a gradient.
The paint is about the consistency of skim milk and dries semi transparent, the more layers, the richer the color. Then I go back through with a lighter shade of red, and layer the high points again.
The skulls were based in white and glazed with a brown. It's time consuming, but it looks good (good enough for my gaming table, anyway). Thanks for the compliment.

Also, there's a hint for you in this pic.
You can see here where my glazing on the grey skin for these guys was not so good (paint too dry) and ends up looking chalky. I'm super happy with these guys if not for that. I'll be fixing it later when I paint all the bases.
