Not sure if I qualify for rule #1, but here's my attempt.

I know he's not the best Bill of all time (#3 on my list), but he's the only connection I have with the city. I'm a huge Ok State fan.

Cool story- Turman Thomas's brother in law gave my dad and I tickets to a game in the 90s right around Christmas. We were right at the 50yrd line and only a few rows up. Got to sit with the player's families.

Might be jumping the gun since we've already had a QOTD, but when soaking wood in alcohol to be added as an eventual adjunct, what are people's preferences for amount of time in the alcohol? And do you like to add the booze or just the wood?

In my current case, it's a med toast American oak spiral soaking in rum. I'm planning to add it to a bochet mead at some point.

I will be very interested in your opinion of the toast oak flavor you get. Only because, I used a medium spiral in a stout and the flavor and aroma contribution was not to my liking, at all. It's completely different than chips or cubes. I found it to be a very weird flavor and, as a result, I have a bunch of that beer left.

American or French?

And weird, like garbage weird? Or weird, like entering the 'anti-sweetness' dimension weird?

Hah, great can. I hope you speak like this whenever you're drinking it:

Interesting thought about open container. I have it sealed, filled to the top because the spiral was floating so it's now fully submerged. Assumed it would still pull in some liquid and I would have to top it off at some point.

I probably could of used better terms for that lol. I was heading into a meeting and quickly typed it up. Think like a shallow Tupperware container that would fit the spiral with liquid to cover. Seal it up and keep it somewhere exposed to temperature fluctuations, like a shed or on a porch or something like that. That way you get the ebb and flow of the booze into and out of the wood to season it. Mark was right about adding some more bourbon into the beer/brochet after the fact to taste.

Ludicrous speed? No way man, that was good stuff

I guess my earlier entry was DQ'd by @thecadjockey .

Here is something that appears from time to time in Buffalo. I for one would love to see/smell it. One more thing I didn't know I could find in Buffalo. I think this is something cool.

Can this be my entry buddy?

Pretty sure it was American. I'll open a bottle tonight so I can describe the flavor a little better. It's just definitely not something I'd ever want in my beer again. I boiled them, tossed out the water, soaked them in bourbon for a few weeks, tossed out the bourbon, and the spiral still overpowered the beer after less than a week.

Yeah of course.. didn't count the picture of my horrible brewing experience, didn't think you were serious. I've heard of a corpse flower, didn't know we had any around here. Must be at the botanical gardens, going to have to look into that, I want to smells it!!!

Corpse Flower

“It’s disgusting. You can’t be in this room very long without getting a little nauseous,” said Erin Grajek, the Botanical Gardens marketing director...

I call shenanigans! No way it is that bad. I've smelled some nasty things and just no.

Never having smelled it I can't say one way or another but I have watched David Attenborough describe it in some colorful words when he showed one in an Indonesian jungle.

It also has a very manly scientific name which should be good for some style points perhaps.

Amorphophallus titanum
What's not to like about a titanic phallus?

*Despite the video title it is not in fact the worlds largest flower

Ludicrous Speed was great. Bourbon Oaked Ludicrous Speed was a swing and a miss.

Ive only had the BA version that you sent to me. I enjoyed it, but I like strong notes of oak. I was probably out by a fire at the time, too.
Throw in some smoked peat or malt and it would of been a dinger.

Well aware of the flower science, secretly a flower nerd hah. Took two years of Landscape Architecture for fun, ya know.. when I didn't fully grasp the concept of student loan debt. Man. That thing is ridiculous in so many ways. Ugly as hell too.

Guess I need to make a trip to the gardens, it has been a while. Thanks for that one man.

Oh man, I was all ready to make a dick joke, and it's already right there in the name. :(

I did not haha i imagine I'm happy i missed it. And yes, that would have been me that helped can it.

Fair enough haha

Let me play it back for you, fill was good, a little light on the beer (just seemed like I drank it too quickly or something) but the seal was good.

Nice job. 7/10, would drink again.

It only blossoms for 2 days so plan ahead I guess. Glad I pressed some of your flower geek buttons. It's something cool for sure.

Beer-cool; that's for you to decide. Great competition CAD. Congrats to whomever takes the prize.

You never gave me a bottle of that... want a friend you are...

Thought I was doing you a favor

I didn't remember sending out any bottles, but I'm usually wrong. I know tastes vary, so it's likely just something I didn't like about the flavor from the spiral. Others may feel completely differently. I'm glad someone liked the beer, even if I didn't.

One of those bloomed last year in Denver. They kept the botanic gardens open for crazy hours (i wanna say 6am - midnight) so people could see it. People stood in line for hours to smell/see it. I was not one of those people and I do not regret that.
