I feel so... inadequate.

Thats what I get for not rambling on during the evening hours.

I cant imagine those numbers can be ever close to correct. Also, I will never use nugget. EVER!

Nah, my IBU's are often around 80-100 according to them and know it's nowhere near close. Also, you should always use nugget. Nothing but nugget. I've got a few pounds of it in my freezer. I'll send you some.

You're still the biggest 'hole in this thread in my eyes.

:D

Man, I struggle with this as well.

I'd say (from my own experience) it's going to be closer to 5%, but it seems no one really has it nailed down that I've seen.

Pretty helpful, eh?

5% still shows 82 IBU. That may be closer to accurate but still feels high for 6 oz of hops in 7 gallons. Who knows!

On the mobile version of the site so I can't access the post counts for threads.

Thinking of going for a good long walk during lunch, no run for me today.

Fins... I'm disappointed.

6 oz @ 60 in 7 gallons, where would that put you? :ban:

It's really tough to nail down, I agree with you 100% there. The only thing I can add is that the first time I did a 1 bittering charge + all hopstand beer, it was much more bitter than I expected it to be.

So basically, you're on your own.

Boneless wings at Wolfies. Bastard were little nuggets not what i consider boneless wings. Should have got bone in

Boneless wings are always a ripoff.
Also, what kinda mutant chicken are they getting these boneless wings off of? Must be a weird looking bird not having bones...

Question for anyone who knows the answer, or wants to give me a smart ass remark. :D

I'm putting together an IPA recipe in Brewers Friend. 7 gallon batch to account for losses. I plan on 1oz columbus at 60 (40 ibu), 0.5 oz columbus at 15 (10 ibu), and then the rest I''m doing a hopstand at 180 for 20 minutes: 1.5oz columbus, 1.5oz mosaic and 1.5oz citra.

My question is, how accurate is this in figuring IBU? What utilization percentage do you typically use? I have always done 5% but it suggests 10%. at 10% it says my IBU is 113 and I call BS. Any thoughts?

Hop stands in software are pretty inaccurate, IMO. You'll get isomerization at that temp, but significantly less than you would at 200. I estimate about 10-20% of calculated values, or just ignore it altogether. That said, maybe undershoot your 60 minute charge to account for that boost.

Just ordered Yeast and Brewing Classic Styles. If I can't brew soon I can at least read about it :)

This day is dragging along. It needs to be over soon. I'm actually looking forward to going to work tomorrow. Getting stir crazy in this house all day. Need to break out!
