I'm late to the party. Congrats Fins! Awesome news and I hope you get the job!

Thanks man! Felt pretty damn good about it. Almost there an hour and half. Even got a very extensive tour. It's unbelievable how many aspects they have automated in that place. Spent grain is augured out of the mash tun to the outdoor holding area for farmers to pickup. They even xray each beer to ensure a proper fill. It blew my mind.

Didn't know there was a Miller plant in Manhattan.

Can you tell us what brewery? Or did you do that? Or can I just assume you're coming to work for me?

Wait... You said bottle. Never mind. We don't do that here.

Wait... No you didn't. I'm stoopid.

So you are coming to work for me, cool.

Sounds really interesting. I've yet to go on a brewery tour. I'm guessing you got to see a whole lot more than the average Gavin six-pack would.

X-rays to check the fills. Are they canning or using some sort of opaqued glass.

Doesn't matter just piqued my curiosity.

Sounds like you're a shoe-in. Well done.

Ready for this?

5.5 gal - OG 1.053, FG 1.007 ~ 60 IBU.

8 lb 2-row
.5 lb Caramunich
.5 lb flaked oats
2.5 oz black patent
1 lb corn sugar
1oz centennial @ 60 - 33 ibu
1 oz centennial @ 30 - 25 ibu
1 oz citra @ flameout
1 oz mosaic @ flameout

Mashed @ 151

1 oz Citra dry hop - 5 days @ day 5
1 oz Mosaic dry hop - 3 days @ day 9

I thought the small amount of black patent would lend a nice red hue (and beersmith seemed to agree) and I don't think it did.

Try a little melenoiden. Gives a nice redness.

I say instead of jackets for the 100k post instead we get some sweet sanders for the 5318008 post View attachment 328210

Are those sanders or sandals? So, Sanders? Basically sand paper sandles? What will they think of next? What is that 60 grit?

Countin' them beans; drinkin' that coffee.

Merg. Finally caught up. Today has been a day. Already had to talk a coworker down who though that he was going to get fired for something done yesterday. Have had to explain to him for half the day that nothing is F*ked

Did they ask you about music? They always ask me about music.

Also private tours have been par for the course. Every interview I've had. Plus it's technical unlike group tours. And usually sampling it all too.

Usually x-rays are checking can seams as well. But I'm no expert. ;)

I could have sworn, when I worked at a large macro brewery, they used ultrasound for can/bottle fills. Did I make this up? The rejects were knocked out less than 2 seconds after leaving the fill heads....

Well, at least some sort of imaging test to check the seam. X-ray is a little weird but it needs to see through the metal.

Something like this, although it is usually spot checked by the lab, no inline. View attachment 1452195916946.jpg

Wouldn't be the first time I was mistaken. :D

Going to make a brown ale in one barrel should get a lot of barrel character. Then going to barrel ferment a saison in one.

Nice! Im not pleased with the mouth feel of my BA RIS so I am planning to brew another one for that barrel, but will be doing a rye saison after that. You think I will still pick up good barrel qualities on the third use after the whiskey?

Any offer will be conditional upon completion of standard background check, skin swabs, etc.

I'm screwed if they skin swab me. I was racking sours beer last night even...

Did they ask if you liked beer?

Seriously though, I might need to go part time over at Fernson here and work the canning line. That'll get me places!

It should. BCBW is third use barrels after BCBS. Should have a lot of barrel character. The saision will be a rye saison and will be 4th use (2nd from me). Luckily I going to brew a 15 gallon batch at my friends at B-52 so I can fill two barrels in 2 batches. The barelywine needs several because I want a high abv on it.

Good luck finsfan, that is awesome news!

And semi-related to career changes, today is my last full day at my job so my coworkers took me out to lunch at Sweet Lucy's BBQ. Oh how I will miss that place.

Happy hour at chickies and petes later. I wish you all understood how awesome these two places are...

Chickies and Petes....mmmm. Those fries are awesome. And I ate a million pounds of crab legs there one day. That was a good day.

I got you brother...
