Some guy comments on my lack of green (black shirt with a giant gold celtic knot shamrock on it), I told him real Irish people don't wear green on St. Patty's day... guy absolutely loses it, "YOU SAYING I'M NOT IRISH???"

Wife dragged me out before it went much further.

My wife claims to be Irish, even though her grandparents were all born in the US. Yes, most of your great grandparents were from Ireland, but that don't make YOU Irish.

Being back in the office after a couple days off sucks. Didn't help that i got a flat tire on the way into work this morning...

I think I can speak for both Psy and myself when I say its probably best if we avoid those types of people. Things have a tendancy of turning out poorly for somebody and to date it hasn't ended badly for me. Id rather avoid all possible instances of some DB 22 year old with a point to prove then risk jail time.

You're absolutely correct, which is why I don't claim to be Irish... even though a good part of my lineage is from that part of the world.

Of course, I don't go around telling people I'm of African descent either.

Maybe Gavin can shed some light on why everyone wants to be Irish so badly. Must be the superior potatoes.

I think most American's try to identify with a heritage as something to hold on to or belong to. Some cultures are storied and ancient, dating back hundreds or even thousands of years. Our fair country isn't as old, and aside from the Native American people, we aren't necessarily native to the land such as other peoples. Of course, it can be said that nobody is from anywhere and we all most likely came from Africa or from the Middle East, but where's the fun in that. I identify as being American a three generations removed from Poland on my fathers side and many, many times removed from Wales. My wife's family is similar; she can trace lineage back to Ireland, England and Jamaica. Her great grand father was in the English army and married a native Jamaican. We celebrate all cultures but it all really boils down to being part of the melting pot experiment that is America.

My grandfather was Deputy Fuhrer to A.H., I don't go around calling myself a Nazi. St Patty's Day is a nice day to be in Buffalo. That's all I'm saying.

100% agree. My great grandmother was an immigrant from Ireland in 1926 when she was 4, but I certainly never claim to be. I do respect Irish traditions, have a family recipe for corned beef and cabbage (more American than Irish, I know), and some celtic knotwork tattoos, but there's a difference between celebrating your Irish HERITAGE and claiming you ARE Irish.

lol I hear you man, not arguing that at all. Id love to see it, I really would. The lesser celebrated cultural holidays are a really fun experience around here. Octoberfest, Polish parades, Chinese new year, Ukranian heritage day, all great experiences here. Something that only Philadelphian's get to celebrate though is the Mummers experience on new years day. That is an epic party.

Did the same, my local Macy's is going out of business, so they have 60% off everything in the store. I got $450 worth of dress pants and shirts for $180.

I get 2 pairs into trying on pants and Im done f%^*ing shopping for the day. Doesnt matter how pumped I get before going. Its impossible to find anything 28x30 so I usually end up with 30x30 and SWMBO just makes fun of me for having saggy pants

No, although there was some intermarrying with the Mi'kmaq before Lawrence came along and called those church meetings. That being said, the Spanish did send a lot of my other ancestry to a lot of places. Quite possible they intermingled with Mayans. lol
