How do you do it? I made the syrup and added it to a can of seltzer and it was...ok. Is there a better way?

We used extract and yeast with tap water in PTE bottles. I think we used brown sugar and turbo sugar as the food. Gave it a day or two for the yeast to bump and grind before putting them in the fridge. My lbs had basically everything in on kit for soda making. I had a recipe once upon a time for non extract and boiled roots, but the extract was far, far better
Hell we did it for a 7th grade science fair project to show how soda got its carb and took 2nd place

Decided since I have friends who are digging the apfelwein keg that I have (this batch is almost a year old now and still great) and I believe that it probably has less than a third left that I should mix up the next 10 gallons and get it fermenting last night. Realized that since I have a few pounds of leftover brown sugar that has been sitting around for a while to substitute it instead. Was fun, but messier than usual. Only down side is while running into the garage (barefoot, I hate wearing shoes) I stepped on a chunk of glass from a beer bottle that I had dropped a few weeks back and now have a hole the size of two grains of malted barley in the bottom of my foot. Oh well. Its happily bubbling away.

I am jealous of all you with 60 degree weather, we are kinda getting missed by the snow storm that is kicking butt a little further northwest of me, but I don't even want the little bit of snow they are threatening us with today. Im just sitting here at work enjoying my second cup of coffee. Trying to not smack idiots. It is working so far, but who knows where the day is going to go.

If you let it ferment a little longer you'd have won 1st, haha. I'll have to try that way next time.

I guess the promotion didn't lesson the number of ijiuts that you have to deal with?:smack:

If you look around, almost all good craft soda has even a microscopic alcohol content, nobody talks about it though. :D
I think we have used the Zatarains, the McCormick and the Old Fashioned Homebrew varieties, all of them were good, probably the Zatarains was our favorite, the Homebrew extract we got from the LHBS was second, the McCormick was just too syrupy and fake tasting.

Nope. And that seems to be the case anyway. The more you get paid the more idiots you have to deal with. I am just wondering when they are going to tell me about the schedule change. Supposedly someone is going to be moved to afternoon shift starting next week. The grapevine says it will be me, but the powers that be haven't notified me yet. This should be interesting.

If the hole in your foot continues to bubble for more than 2 hours, you should probably consult a doctor.

Coffee. Snow and a tiny rental car might prevent me from making the drive to Jackie O's and Little Fish tonight. We'll see how the day shakes out though.

I have made a few small batches of root beer using the Old Fashioned brand extract from the LHBS and it was good. I even made some with Truvia, but primed with sugar. Not bad. I used regular beer bottles and crowns. They were all much better after a couple of months in the bottle (not because of negligible alcohol... just smoother).

Did everyone leave and go start a new thread or something? Man.. I wasn't gone that long.

Fins went pro, so he's probably lying on the canning line giving himself a short fill.

1977 doesn't post here any more... couldn't keep up.

WesleyS quit HBT, but started brewing again.

Everyone else agreed to leave when you got back.

Excellent. Only a few more loose ends to tie up before everyone is gone and I'm Supreme Overlord of HBT.

Whups. Haha. The apfelwein is bubbling. The foot stopped bleeding on its own after a while. Feels like I am walking around on a marble though.

Wait a minute. I was here all weekend bud. Just not yesterday really.

Coff. Duffman, come burn this place down when you're done there. I'll buy you beers.
