Met a bloke in Guam many years ago. Bumped into him a the bar. He was from White Settlement Texas. I thought he was BS'ing me at first about his home town's name but I later confirmed it to be a real place.

Not sure what piqued his interest in me but it must have been in the first 60 seconds of conversation that he stopped me to let me know that "[sic]he[sic] just plain don't like black folks"

I think there may have been some gentlemanly entertainment of an adult nature at this particular establishment and he took umbrage with my evident approval of the deliciously beautiful entertainer of color who by happenstance was entertaining the bar-folk.

Always stuck in my mind, that quote and the town's name. Never imagined I would end up calling this neck of the woods home.

I lived there for ten years. They tried to get the name changed to West Settlement a while back, that went over as well as you'd expect.

If I ever go back to visit my family (not too likely) we definitely need to do a friendly textard Moth meetup.

PS - @1977Brewer , I still think that my imperial stout aging for 6 months with oak cubes will be better than yours. So there.

Does the 6 months really make a difference with oak? I'd imagine there's a minimum time, but the saturation time, I thought, would be 4-6 weeks.

Depends on the type of oak. Chips, FAR too long, Cubes would probably be too long, staves would be right on target, in an actual barrel would probably need more time.

I've always thought it was good stuff. Planned on bringing some back last time, just forgot. I failed.

They had the Yueng two for one all the time at Chilis in Orlando when I was there for law school. Perfect spot for cheap drinks right after class to un-remember stuff. I'd never heard of the stuff before in TX. Was infinitely better than the rest of the macro lagers on tap.
