Quick check in over lunch. No news on any of my entries. Southwest region is still pending. I would like to enter some in the Enchanted Beer Challenge, but need the bottles if the brews go on. Maybe I will send an email.

I have three going on to the 2nd round!

Fruit Beer - 1st Place
American Stout - 2nd Place
Imperial Stout - 3rd Place (888 test batch)

That means I took 2nd and 3rd in the stout category.

The fruit beer is a raspberry Imperial Stout. (888 test batch base)

Woo-Hoo!

Excellent! Congrats! Did you get it in the mail? If so, what was on the return address. I have to have SWMBO go check for mine.

I sent an email and asked if they knew anything because I have a different comp. I want to enter but limited bottles. They replied today.

That was nice of them. I sent them an email letting them know I've been on the road and would like to know, but I doubt I will hear back. I just soon enter those bottles in a different comp. too.

Congratulations, it looks like you have the Stout style on lockdown :)

I tried the same in my region and they told me the results were sent to denver and i'd have to wait for them to post on the website.

I got my sheets back today. I only entered one, Lake Walk Ple Ale. I'm really happy with the feedback--the "flaw" was clear cut--I need more malt profile. I can fix that for next time!

It scored a 38/50 and both judges were consistent.

I'm happy even if it didn't advance.

Thats pretty great. My hope is that no matter how i'm judged, I at least come away with consistant criticism. I'd find it hard to know what to think with scoresheets all over the board for the same beer.

Congrats BP! I never doubted for a minute that you'd have beers in the finals!
Very cool. :mug:

Now go and kick Jamil's...;)

I'm still waiting on mine as well...

Why is the Southwest region taking so long?

And BP, that means there's still room for me at #1 in the Stout catagory...:p

How do you know if you advanced to the second round? Do they explicitly tell you?

I would just as soon be beat out by a friend as a stranger, at least then I will know who I'm gunning for! Good luck. :mug:

As for notification, yes, they will let you know, both on your score sheets and in a mailing. Also there will be a results web site soon.

I believe the official word is if you made it to the 2nd round you will be notified by mail by the 15th, and the 1st round results should be posted on the website by the 9th.

Congrats BP. That's great.

On my end, it's official. Entry was lost. I was offered a free pass in to the 2nd round, but that just didn't feel right so I declined.

You should reconsider. You are owed the scores at the very least.

If I fail to enter next year, someone kick my ass.

I thought about it. But then I have to bottle three more bottles, pay shipping AGAIN, take the risk again that they will loose this entry, etc etc etc. Plus, I have the same beer in the OR Homebrew Comp that's in a few weeks so I'll be getting scores for that.

Come on already, how'd I do!

It seems like the North East region may not be in any rush to send out score sheets. Judging was April 26th.

I just recieved my results today. And I am totally stoked.

Belgian Blonde.... 40 points and 1st place
Munich Dunkel.... 37.5 points and 1st place
Bourbon Barrel Porter.... 31 points
Dark American Lager.... 27 points

Only my second competition and I have two in the second round. It's kinda hard to believe.

Got my scores back. Nothing going on to the second round, but I'm happy with the scores.

Russian Imperial Stout - 35 (35/35)
English Barleywine - 37.5 (39/36)
Alder Smoked Beer - 29 (29/29)
German Hefeweizen - 24 (26/22)
Fat Tuba Pale Ale - 28.5 (27/30)
American Barleywine - (31/28)
Scottish 80/- 36 (35/37)

The nice thing is that no scores mentioned any real defects. The lowest score was on the Hefeweizen. I used the White Labs 351 yeast which puts out very little banana and more clove. The judges said it was closer to an American hefe, so it was slightly out of style. My Pale Ale was just that it needed to be bigger. I don't know where it was in the flight, and I know it's not pushing the boundries of the style, but thats fine.

Wow, congrats and goodluck on those beers

Well, I did ok. My least favorite beer (American Amber) scored the highest- 37.5. I really like the score sheets, and the way they were scored.

I don't know if I'll enter another contest, but it was fun this time.

What's interesting is that I thought my Scottish 80 /- would score much lower. I wasn't happy with the results. It was a rebrew from the first time I made it, but the yeast was old and didn't ferment all the way out. It was cloudy, a little yeasty and a little too sweet, compared to the first time I brewed it, which I thought was fantastic. I was expecting comments on off yeast flavors and esters, but it scored well. I'll make it again with fresh yeast, mash high and maybe bump the crystal a little more and it should be perfect.

Well I got my score sheets back too...

IIPA (this was the Pliny the Elder clone that Dude posted)-- 39.5 and 2nd place
German Pils-- 32.5
Munich Helles-- 16.5, something must have gone weird with this bottle as I thought it was a spot on clone of Paulaner Original.

So, I guess I scored HBT some club points and I thought the comments were very good and helpful. All in all not too bad for my first competition.

Only bad news is that I am completely out of the IIPA as the bottle I sent in was literally the last 12 ounces. Maybe someday I will be rich enough to brew it again.

I didn't even know you entered! Good job, a 37 is nothing to scoff at!

Still no update today. Starting to wonder if the North East competition did not send out scoresheets. In my the reply I got from the region point of contact, she said that they mailed the results straight to denver the monday morning after the competition. I figured that she was just avoiding getting into scoresheet talk, but now I'm seriously wondering if they ever sent them out at all.

No North East people got them right? It'll be 2 weeks since the comp this weekend.

Ok I re-read her reply, she said the scoresheets are due to be sent out by May 15th. Lot more lag than the other regions, but what are you gonna do I guess...appariently some people have lives away from beer :)

Results are up

My English Pale Ale placed second in the North East region. :mug:

*edit* Just looked, gonna have to try and hastily rebrew this one. Though my Porter would advance before this one. Go Figure :)
