Here’s a malty and delicious 4.8% ABV Helles that would have made George proud. If he wasn’t having to take on the Hessians that is!

Seriously though, Weihenstephaner gets virtually perfect marks for their true-to style Munich Helles. Ok, Ok, I know Weihenstephaner is actually a few clicks outside of Munich proper, but who’s counting anyway? I mean it’s not FESTBIER - no issues then!

The World’s Oldest Brewery, since 1040! Strap that one on and think about it! Let’s see, (2025-1040)/25 years/generation = 39 generations of humans enjoying Weihenstephaner. Come to think of it, thirsty drinkers actually started cranking “them babies” out early back then, bumping that to 20 years puts us at 49 generations of humans. Fantastic beer the whole time now that’s what I call dedication to the cause!

Boodle's is a prestigious gentlemen's club in London, founded in 1762. Located at 28 St James's Street since 1782, it is known for its exclusive membership, which includes British aristocrats and notable politicians. The club is the second oldest of its kind in London, following only White's. Ian Fleming and Winston Churchill were both members of Boodles, and Fleming even based his fictional club, Blades, on Boodles. Fleming was a member from 1944 until his death, while Churchill became an honorary life member after World War II.

Ian Fleming and Boodles
  • Membership: Fleming was a member of Boodles from 1944 until his death.

  • Inspiration: Fleming used Boodles as the basis for Blades, the fictional private members' club featured in his James Bond novels, such as Moonraker.

  • Association: Boodles was a significant location in Fleming's life and his work, serving as a place for events and connections.
Winston Churchill and Boodles
  • Honorary Membership: Churchill became an honorary life member of the club after World War II.
  • Unusual Admission: Boodles was notable for being the only traditional Georgian club to welcome Churchill as a member.
Their Connection
  • Both men were prominent figures who were members of the prestigious London club. Fleming's membership placed him in a circle that included high-ranking MI6 officers and was a key part of his life, further connecting him to the establishment of which Churchill was also a part.

I rarely brew over 4.5%, but for my 100th batch in my robo, i went a bit bigger. 6.4% Centennial cascadian. Centennial in the cube only, and a big Centennial dry hop.

Smells roast and dank, which i like a lot. Could have more hop flavour, but maybe the roastiness is covering the hops. I'm pretty happy with it either way and will do more bigger beers i think. Bottling sucks, but it's ok for a few batches a year.

Today we have a guest beer experience, brought to us live and direct from Sevilla, Spain!

Beer-Loving Daughter #2 and her hubby have been doing the Grand Tour of Spain, and drinking whatever the locals say is good. That being the case, these two delicious beers must be REALLY good!

First up is Beer-Loving Son-in-Law #2’s Rio Azul Trigo Weissbier. Wow, German styles in Spain, ya’ gotta love it! Style-correct, cloudy with decent head, this looks like a good one. I’m especially intrigued by Beer-Loving Daughter #2’s Rio Azul Berry Twist Sour. It’s a case of Life imitating Art (or is that Art Imitating Life!) I think both!

The sour craze has taken off all over the globe, starting with the Belgians mostly, bounced back and forth across the Atlantic and landing solidly in Spain. Years ago, a sour beer would have brought complaints, (in your best nasally voice…. “waaaah… there’s something wrong with this beer, its sour !!!!”) Not these days! Now they charge and get big bucks for the experience! Salud!
