Hi, is a 20 qt stock pot large enough to do a full boil for a 3 gallon batch (extract) without too much potential for boil over? I know I need to watch it closely anyways.

I guess I may need to calculate my boil off rate to figure out how much liquid to start with. Also I know I can top off with a bit of water in my primary but if I can fit a full boil I might as well go for it.

Thanks,

I do 2.5-3 gallon partial boils in my 5 Gal. pot. My stove had a bear of a time getting to a rolling boil at 3 gal. I had to keep a lid 3/4 of the way on the pot the whole time.

yeah that should be plenty big. projecting the final volume is a bit of trail and error. Remember the extract adds to the overall volume. Steeping grains will remove some volume as they soak up water.
