Don't forget the plutonium!

Mid 30's it was about 5 cents for each plastic lined tin can...

Small breweries used cone topped cans with regular crown caps (they could use the same bottling machines) and the big producers used the conventional can shape that needed a church key..

By the mid 40's most canned beer went to the military and bottles stayed here for the civilians.

I remember paying 69 to 99 cents a six pack in the early 60's.

Ah, church key, probably many on here have no idea what it is. I can remember the innovative pull tab. If you didn't have a "church key" you didn't need a screwdriver to open your can.

I am in the middle of reading "Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition" and a few weeks ago my wife and I took the Cincinnati Over the Rhine Brewery Tour. I asked my father what beer cost in the mid to late 40's but he couldn't remember.

Hudepohl had a military beer contract during WWII for the pacific theater. Dad did remember the green cans.
