Yes it is 2lb dk drum. And rod.....I just got into this hobby ,was what would work for me ,,can I roast grain in it,,mmmmm.."stay strong and brew on"

I got into outdoor roasting cuz of the smoke that is produced during the the process. I got the drum cuz of the size i wanted to do, and i could do it on my gas grill.i bought full 65 bulk bag to start ..the reason being it was cheaper and i wanted to dial in the roasting times with one coffee green bean..
 
Yes, 3 to 4oz in general. You'll want the beans to swirl around on their own. I have done 6 oz batches but the I have to stir them continuously up until just about first crack. I do 3oz batches because I use a 4oz glass to measure. Filled to the brim plus a bean or 2 will weigh 3oz. It's great for learning to roast and since I'm the only coffee drinker in the house one roast provides 4 double shots of espresso which is 4 days worth of coffee for me!

The 5 roasts back to back were done in slightly less than 1 hour, including dragging everything out and putting it all away. And 1 homebrew was drank!

Cool to see the RK. I would love to know how you like it. That is the roaster I thought I would go with, but Chicago winter set in and reminded me I was foolish.

Roasted 3lb tonight in the Bullet, most of which for Thanksgiving. About 40 roasts in on the machine and getting better at predicting how the roaster will float and whatnot.

I did miss 1c on a cheap Brazil so in anger I decided to take it up near 2c while proclaiming "I'll show you not to skip first Crack!" (as I wave my fist at the sky). Dropped it and 2c started to pop while it hit the cooling tray so that worked well.

Wow. I do 20 oz batches (final weight between 17 and 18 oz), and if I’m careful it lasts me a week. But it sounds like your roasts are pretty speedy, at least.

if you like to grill dk is the way to go, it is outside so the weather does effect the grill time . I could not roast in the house,due to the smoke and I did not want to.
 
I have kicked this around awhile and have posed questions here, but I am coming back to pour over. Manually brewing perhaps better said. Without a good drip brewer I need to give this a try. I remain certain cold brew is one of the best ways to brew coffee, but for my situation I think a pour over is going to be a huge step up. Cant wait to try this more. Most of you manually brew iirc?

I dont know how some roast in the house, I like it smokey too ;) but cmon man. And the chaff? But with some good venting, would be nice to have a roasting setup. Like the drum. Looks like a sweet setup. How quick does that roast? Like the large batch factor. It has been explained to me, but I cant understand how food flavors dont come through. My grill is way dirtier than yours though. Hey, I'm just a man. I wonder, what would a heat gun do clamped above a drum like that?

Okay ..no readings here.lol.you try inthe house and let me know how it goes.. .. the batch size is one lb..grill is three burners on full, the drip trays are removed,the drum is preheat for the first run..run time last week was 19 minutes outside Temp was in the low fifty's, I did 6 runs, the temperature in the grill was@550,.. The temperature in the grill will burn off leftovers and then it's scrap clean you could try a cast iron skillet on the grill

^dang thats sweet! ive contemplated a brick oven several times - something i'd really like to have. i think the the true driving force behind an oven like that is dough. there is no recipe for it.. you have to know what it feels like in your hands and have an instinct for it. if you are one with the dough - a brick oven is an amazing tool. i love the idea of turning out thin crust pies, steel pan deep dish/detroit style & using the residual heat in the oven to bake gnarly artisan loafs. alas, i have no clue how to make dough & don't know anyone who could teach me

Also burmans has the new top lot ethiopian on sale at 7 a pound. Think it was 8.60. I dont know which way to go. My friend drinks a lot of bodhi finca santa teresa and it is nice. Cant remember origin. I have got the costa ricans and they just make me long for ethiopian. Good time to load up on some kenyan. Think I will buy for christmas.

I saw the deal from Bodhileaf. I feel like I’m set on beans for now but it’s tempting to order some and take advantage of the deal.
 
Fwiw, historically sweet Maria's has offered 15 percent off for black Friday. The shipping gets really slow though because they get slammed with orders from the offer. I used to buy my greens for the Christmas blend with that sale but it's too slow of turn around.
