Good way to learn hops. Often people do a smash brew (single hop single malt) to keep it simple and learn the character of the hop and a malt.

I d what fuzzewuzze does plus I put the jar in the lightproof bag the hops came in, for added uv protection. Not sure how much that really helps. I plan to start flushing with co2 as soon as I fix my 2nd regultor.

That would explain it, if the room is in the high 60's the wort is hitting the low to mid 70's. Look into some form of temp control in the future. More than anything else I did improving temp control made my beer better.

If you are using tap water make sure your utility company is not adding chloramine, my first sever batches were ruined becuase of that, those grocery store water machines apparently do not always remove it all either. It is easy to fix with adding campden tablets to your brew water.

I wouldn't test by using campden tablets, contact your water utility and ask. I emailed mine asking about it and if they had more detailed info than on the report and was provided with the info I needed for making water adjustments. Don't risk another batch if you are unsure.
