For Sale ***FREE*** CA: San Joaquin to Bay Area: Fermentation Refrigerator

I have an older Amana refrigerator with a bottom freezer that I have been using for years as a fermentation fridge. It gets as low as 40°F. I use an inkbird temperature controller - it has worked fairly well. It could be stronger in this central valley heat when trying to cool off wort... Yes...

    Fermentis S-04 High Attenuation

Seems odd that a yeast with an advertised attenuation of around 82% would have such a consistently high attenuation. Anyone else getting these kind of results? I like this yeast because of the high attenuation combined with the high degree of flocculation and resultant clarity. Beer: Basic IPA...

    Filtering post chill wort?

I received a wort pump for Christmas and now want to do everything possible with it because it’s new and different! So, does this make sense: Throw a biab into the pot at the last 5 min of boil to sterilize and then use the recirc pump to run all of the wort back through it to catch all the trub...

    whirlpool adapter to welded fittings

I have a kettle with three welded 1/2" npt fittings. One is the out, one is the thermometer and the last one was capped. For christmas, I received a pump and wanted to give it a go for whirlpooling during cooling with an immersion cooler. So I installed a ball valve and barb fitting. I...

Almost Anything can be a Fermenter

Been doing this for a couple years now. I've discovered that it takes an hour longer to brew 25 gallons of beer vs 5 gallons of beer. Obvious equipment scaling. This is an all grain, natural gas brew garage. 26 gallon kettle, twin 15 gallon mash tuns... My fermenters were always based on what...

    New favorite keg cleaning brush

Stumbled across this soft brush with a long handle when I was over at home depot. It was somewhere around $7. With the stiff long handle, I can reach the bottom of the keg with some conviction. I just use regular dish soap and warm water - then store with a little bit of sanitizer.

California Bay Area: Free Grolsch bottles in milk crates

They are clean and dry with good gaskets. Went to kegs. 16 bottles to a crate. 15 crates. That’s a lot of bottles.

i have a smallish fridge that I’ve used as a fermentation fridge with an ink bird controller. It holds 4 seven gallon fermonster containers. It works great. Does not come with the controller. I switched to a bottom freezer unit. Free!

    Love my Tilt Hydrometer!

Yes it's expensive... I've used it on a couple batches so far (it was a christmas present) The volume of data this thing delivers when connected to the cloud is really impressive. Temperature and specific gravity. Every 15 minutes. The mystery is gone! I have it feeding data into an old...

    Burners: SP10 vs KAB4

ive been using the bayou classic SP10 for about a year when I discovered brewing. I bought it years ago for steaming crabs in Bodega bay. (Mmmmmmm). Well, after 10-12 gallon batches started 6 months ago, the weakness of the SP10 was starting to show. It works fine, but slow. I looked at the top...

    Differences in extract to grain

I did about 4 batches of extract based (mostly liquid) IPAs from the local More Beer store. They were great. It really didn't take long to jump to the all grain setup. Using the cooler mash tun, big 15 gallon kettle, even a grain crusher. The one difference I've noticed is a difference...

    Belgian Trippel & Wyeast 1214

Brewed on 5/21 fermented at 68°F from 5/21 - 6/2. Won't flocculate. Dropped temp to 36 (which took 2 days to achieve). It's been cold for about 48 hours. Added a half pack of gelatin 24 hours ago. Is this simply a waiting game or am I doing something wrong? This is what it looks like today...
