    WTT - MI Stouts

Got KBS, PT5th, Founds Imperial Stout. Looking for some fresh Pliny and/or Heady Topper. Or other cliche (probably) overrated things I can't get in MI. Message me or reply.

    Cork bottle caps

Hey, free is free but I understand your point. I thought about just using a couple on the last batch I make then using them for real if they turned out ok. They were in my grandma's basement. She said my great grandma used them to bottle ketchup she made. Thought it would be cool to...

    Cork bottle caps

Unearthed a whole jar of these unused bottle caps. Anyone ever use anything like this for bottling? Anything that I should consider if I were to attempt to use them? There's cork lining the whole inside. Best guesses indicate these are from at least the 1960s if not earlier.

Bine at the top, back down?

It's a single pole with 4 plants trained to the top at a single point kinda like a teepee. Perhaps I could make the top into a more T- shape and allow the line to zig and zag its way up.

Bine at the top, back down?

My trellis only goes up about 13 feet but my year two cascades are already almost all the way to the top. Can I train the burrito go back down somehow to get max bine length? Sometimes I think I like growing the hops more than using them.

    Trellis idea?

I used a single 1" PVC pipe last summer for a teepee type setup last summer. I had 4 plants going up 4 lines and things got pretty shaky once it got top heavy and the storms of late August started. I'm putting some steel piping into the center this year as reinforcements. Not sure any of this...

Saugatuck Bonfire Brown - Best Guess, Seeking Input

I've dropped an e-mail to Saugatuck BC in hopes of getting some input on cloning their Bonfire Brown. If you haven't tried it, it's really an outstanding brown, and I'm not a huge fan of the style to begin with. It's only been a few hours, but no reply, so boredom breeds ingenuity. I saved the...

Founders Inspired Artist Black IPA Questions

Just ordered a pound of Mosaic. I am now even more curious what your results seem like of that recipe because based on some similar research regarding this hop, I'm pretty excited to use it in all kinds of stuff including a more educated guess at cloning Inspired Artist. I'll be bottling my...

Founders Inspired Artist Black IPA Questions

Thanks for posting your thoughts. Interesting you had Citra in there. I didn't really get a sense of it in there, but I'm admittedly a rube when it comes to discerning flavors. I am curious to hear how yours finally turns out. I was also inspired (no pun intended) to attempt something in this...

Founders Inspired Artist Black IPA Questions

Looking to make something similar to Founders Inspired Artist Black IPA, and was wondering if anyone with a pallet more refined than mine might be able to give some input on the hops in there. From my perspective I think there's a good amount of floral notes in the nose, so I feel like there's...

Noob alert: Are my cones ready?

They are fairly papery and feel light. And obviously they are starting to spread a bit, but I can't smell or see any lupulin (though I have no idea what it looks like. Just wondering what people can make of these images and whether or not they are ready to harvest. Cheers, Matt

After achieving a solid 45% BH effeciency grinding with a rolling pin...

I managed a 50% efficiency with my own noob idiocy combined with the crappy mill at my LHBS. Just did my second batch from my own mill and managed 86%. It's worth the purchase. Loved the subject line btw.

    Farmhouse "Pliny Pack"

It doesn't list the contents. That part of why I asked.

    Farmhouse "Pliny Pack"

Living in Michigan I've not had the chance to sample some Pliny the Elder, but I'm thinking of brewing up a clone nonetheless. Noticed that Farmhouse brew supply has Pliny Pack which it says is all the hops needed to clone. Anybody buy this? What are your thoughts on it?

Low shoot -Should I train it?

First year growing, but loving the new "sub-hobby." Anyway, on my centennial I about a foot up I have new fairly long shoot coming out the side. It looks long enough to train up my trellis. Would it be worth attempting or should I just trim it off so the plant doesn't waste the energy? Also any...

    Yeast starter worry

I made a yeast starter last night. Checked it this morning and it must have been a lively group because my foil had blown right off the top and mu jar was completely exposed on top. Should I assume this starter is now unusable? Anyone had this happen and use the yeast anyway? Thanks, Matt

    Vanilla beans and beyond

Hey all, I've got an imperial stout in the throws of primary fermentation. The plan is to transfer to secondary with some vanilla beans. I've seen many a person on the boards recommend vodka as the best way to sanitize and extract the flavors fromnthe beans. Problem is that I'm cheap and...
