    Dark Mild recipe thoughts

That's very close to my recipe. I usually use #3 invert in place of a good portion of the crystal and oats instead of wheat. I also do just a bittering addition at the start of the boil but the IBU level is almost identical.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

AFAIR, Taylor's have always advertised Landlord as 100% Golden Promise. If you check their ingredients list, in addition to malt they have listed sugar. So in my last few batches of my "clone" Ive just used 1# of #3 invert. I suspect there may be some other process things like length of boil...

Lanlord gets the most publicity, but Boltmaker is an awesome beer and I actually prefer it. Don't often find it around Nottingham

Looking for information on how historical English Porters were aged.

I was going to suggest you take look at the numerous writings of Ron Pattinson, but it appears you have the executive summary from the source himself.😂

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Was in Sheffield recently and was fortunate to find a Simonds 1880 Bitter from The Kernel on cask. Brewed from this recipe Simonds Bitter (1880) – Durden Park Beer Club , it was a remarkable beer. Giving it a go this morning with a 5L batch to go in a mini CD cask. Haven't done a small batch...

    Liquid Side Conversion to Duotight

Helping someone convert his keezer to duotights on the liquid side. The faucet shanks have a 1/4 inch barb permanently attached. Has anyone identified a fitting to convert these to a duotight connection? I was thinking possibly the 8mm to 6.5mm reducer.

    Brewed an Ordinary Bitter...

Great information here. I have ripped through a 55 kg bag of Chevalier this year - several different bitters, a mild, and an English porter. Outstanding. Currently enjoying the porter immensly. Done brewing for 2022 as I am off to the UK for Christmas including a post New Years trip up to...

    Brewed an Ordinary Bitter...

My daughter has lived in England for 12 years and I visit there about 2-3 times per year. Bitter and milds are my favorites, but the influence of American hops has exploded over the last few years. Still love to find a Taylor's on cask in the vicinity of her home, most often Landlord. Was...

    Brewed an Ordinary Bitter...

One of my favorites. I travel to the UK 2-3 times a year and often visit a pub every day for a pint or two. I try to brew my version here, but nothing I do can match a proper cask ale on a hand pump. Sadly much of the American public rejects this style and it is not commercially viable in...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Have a very similar beer in the fermenter. 7.5# of Chevalier, 1# of homemade invert #2. Mash and boil 90 minutes with Pilgrim and Goldings at 60, Goldings at 30, and First Gold at 5. Fermented with an out of date pack of 1469 supplemented with a pack of S-04.

Just a note to advise that Darkstar Brewery has. now made available a rebrew of Gale's Prize Old Ale. Martyn Cornell provides the details far more eloquently and knowledgeably that I could. Rush out now and buy as much Gale’s Prize Old Ale as you can The initial bottling sold out very...

    Crisp malts diastatic power

I expected it differs from lot to lot and that may be why they don't publicly put it on the website. Modern malts generally tend to be highly modified and don't have trouble with conversion, so not something I really am ever concerned about. May I suggest you email Crisp? They might provide...

    Crisp malts diastatic power

Crisp has an application which you can use to scan a QR code on the bag for the malt. This app will return the data for that lot of malt and I believe it include the DP. https://crispmalt.com/quality-malt-guide/
