so with that in mind, looks like this:
.25 nugget = 11.8 IBU
.5oz simcoe = 25.6 IBU
.25 centennial =10 IBU
So if I add all that at 60 min, I should hit about 47.4 IBU. that would leave me:
1 oz citra
0.8 oz Amarillo
0.5 oz simco
0.25 oz centennial
so I'm thinking toss in the...
I have a calculator via iBrewmaster app, but I am pretty much clueless about what I need to hit on it.
What kind of IBU's am I shooting for to brew an APA?
Thanks chickypad!
here's what I wound up going with:
8oz briess caramel steeped 20 min
3# maris otter DME (60 min)
1 oz simcoe hops (60 min)
.25 oz nugget hops (45 min)
3# maris otter DME (15 min)
0.8 oz centennial (flameout)
0.8 oz Amarillo (dry hop)
1 oz citra (dry hop)- I used...
Got a few leftover ingredients in the beer cupboard- want to try to make a decent session(ish) beer out of them if possible.
I have:
2 oz citra
.8 oz Amarillo
.8 oz centennial
.25 nugget
1/2 pound briess caramel 40L
1 pack of wyeast 1056 American ale
I am only set up for extract...
Now that is likely the most complete and concise answer I have ever received on a question! Thanks for the great info! I will use that formula moving forward and hopefully avoid any more issues.
Thanks for the assist!

So I just made what I thought was going to be a 1.5L starter for my upcoming Pliny brew- I have always used a ratio of 5 cups of water to 1 cup DME and had pretty close to a 1.040 starter in the past.
I don't check the OG of the starter every time, but tonight I used 10 cups of water and 2...
Can I simply take 2 Liters of wort from an extract brew and pitch a new vial of yeast into it to make another starter for a brew I will be doing a couple days later?
I intend to put it on a stir plate for 24hrs and cold crash/decant.
I wasn't sure what the hop content/flavor profile...
Thanks! Found a small leak on one of the unused QD's. Barely bubbled- and I checked every other connection and the release valves.
Hope that gets it-
Thanks again!

So I just opened up my keezer a minute ago and when I put my head in to attach a gas line I inhaled something that smelled/tasted like battery acid. It took my breath away and nearly made me black out!
I checked all my connections with soapy water and no bubbles. Any idea what this could be...
I hit right at 1.071 after adding the water. I didn't take a reading pre addition so not sure what the difference was.
I used a bit less than a gallon iirc- I just topped off to the 6 gal mark on my BK.
Force carbed and tapped this yesterday. I haven't had the original but it is quite good...
I have had a 2L starter (Wyeast 1056) in the fridge for 3 days cold crashing, and now I have been delayed in my brew day.
Is it ok to leave it in the fridge for another few days? Should I decant the liquid off and put it back in?
That is pretty extensive! Not sure if I am wanting to take something of that magnitude on- and the keezer is coming along nicely right now. I didn't take a bunch of pics but here are a few- it's pretty much a direct descendent of jester's build I am sure you have all seen with a couple of mods...
