    Warm weather yeasts

For what it's worth, I wrap my fermenter (i have a bucket as well as a car boy) in a beach towel, and every 2 or 3 days I pour cold water over it to soak the towel. According to my dig. thermometer, evaporation keeps the towel at 65 when the house temp is 72. By the way I figure, that keeps...

    Blow off hose?

I think we may have slightly hijacked the thread here, although there has been some great info posted. For the original question, has anyone rigged a blow off hose on a bucket with a drilled lid? If so, what size stopper and or hose did you use? thanks guys

    Blow off hose?

What liquid do you prefer in your blow of jug? I used my first blow off rig for my last IPA and my jug was a growler with tap water. I know some people like star san or similar products, but if yeast is being propelled into the jug, wouldn't that be open to "infection"? I didn't have any...

    unequal carbonation with gas distributor

thanks for the response guys. The bottle is outside the fridge, and the 3 way splitter is inside. As far as both kegs being equal pressure, I don't have the equipment to check that. They both def. had pressure because when fidgeting with the carbing keg, I check the release valve, which let a...

    unequal carbonation with gas distributor

2 kegs run from one gas bottle via a gas splitter. One keg being deliciously enjoyed, the other keg just sitting there gettin bubbly...sorta. Fridge was just under 40F, regulator set on 11psi. Serving keg was put in the fridge solo and carbed up, and when I started serving it, I put the second...

perfect foam, rigged tank outside and added a keg gas line, too much foam

Thanks guys....the keg is in fact very close to empty. That may be exactly what is happening. The other keg is still carbing on the "set it and forget it" method. As soon as the serving keg is done, i'll test out the other keg.

perfect foam, rigged tank outside and added a keg gas line, too much foam

Forgive me if this has already been discussed, I tried reading many posts from a search I did before this post.... My kegerator was a 1 corny keg rig with the tank inside...perfect. Nice creamy head on each beer that was great...maybe 1 inch or so. I rigged a splitter for the gas line so I...

+1 on the let it sit. I have experianced the same thing, and kept drinking anyways cause i really liked the taste. Around week 2 1/2, it really started feeling well carbonated.

    Climbing Gravity ?????

I back up IluvIPA. This has happened to me too, then I took very carefull notice of the bulb on the hydrometer. Just tiny little bubbles can make a big diff in your reading....even just a few. I let my hydro sit for 10 minutes or so to settle out, then i give the "stick" a good spin to get the...

AG: Propane users - how many 5g batches per tank

I second what the other guy said about getting the tanks refilled. The "full" ones from the store don't feel as full as when I take it to the station down the road to get filled manually.

AG: Propane users - how many 5g batches per tank

I've seen this topic before, and alot of the guys will say "it varies." for what it's worth...i have only done 6 all grain batches, and I refill my 5 gallon tank after each batch, and the most they ever put in it is 2.5 gallons. I use my turkey frier to heat 2 batches of water, then a rolling...

Beer in secondary developed an "alcohol" smell

thanks for the reply. I have been skeptical of the whole transfer process, but I only have one primary fermenter, and wanted to brew up another batch. I may be purchasing an additional primary with my next malt order. I will leave it on the yeast cake for about a weekish. I've heard alot of...

Beer in secondary developed an "alcohol" smell

Did an all grain kit from NB about 2 weeks ago. OG: 1049, gravity after 2 weeks gravity was down to 1009. transferred to secondary to clear up/condition a little before kegging. Taste and smell at 1009 reading was great. Been in secondary for almost 3 days, gravity still at 1009, but now the...
