What is the difference in using dry vs liquid malt extract?

Are you essentially making the liquid malt extract when you use dry malt?

Is using dry malt what constitutes "full grain" brewing?
 
1) One is dry and one is liquid. DME is more shelf-stable than LME, so it will go stale more slowly.

DME is also more "concentrated" than LME. In other words, 1 ounce of DME will give you more sugars than 1 ounce of LME.

+1 quadrillion on John Palmer.
 
LME is 20% water. So it is actually only 2.64 lbs of malt per 3.3 lb container. But adjusting for the price difference, (LME is usually cheaper)... its about a penny per pound in favor of LME.
