This is my second beer Ive brewed. The recipe I was making called for brewers licorice stick (1") to be boiled in at the beginning of the boil when the DME is added.

I went with licorice root (1 ounce) instead because it was what was available at my local shop

I overlooked the Licorice when it called for it and ended up boiling it separately in a small pot because I had the wort cooling.

Ended up cooling the small pot too and got it down to 80 degrees at he same time as the wort got there and mixed the two. Proceeded to add water and yeast as normal.

Do you think this will change the flavor much?

This is to be a Blackberry Porter btw.

Sounds like a good process to me. I have no idea what a "brewers licorice stick" is, but a little licorice in a blackberry porter should be interesting!
